CBS announced in October that it is bringing back the popular Nancy Drew mystery series, but the new character will not be the way you imagined her.
The new Nancy Drew character will not be Caucasian — and she may not even be a biological female.
“She is diverse, that is the way she is written,” said CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday.
Geller told THR it was too early in the process to say whether Drew will be black, Asian, Latino, or even a biological female.
He said the decision would hinge on finding the right actress for the part.
Geller said Drew will be in her 30s and a detective for the NYPD. She will use her “uncanny observational skills,” while “navigating the complexities” of the new world of social media.
Geller stressed that “diversity” — a catchword for gay agenda — will play a major role in upcoming TV programming.
CBS chief Nina Tassler has reportedly made female empowerment her top priority at the network.
Nancy Drew first appeared as a beloved character in mystery books in the 1930s.
An ABC television series, Nancy Drew Mysteries, initially starring 24-year-old Pamela Sue Martin, ran from 1977 to 1979.
