Donald Trump’s heavy-handed campaign manager Corey Lewandowski was arrested Tuesday and charged with battery for allegedly grabbing a female reporter’s arm during a rally in Jupiter, Fla. several weeks ago.
The reporter, Michelle Fields, claims Lewandowski grabbed her arm so forcefully he left bruises.
Lewandowski has been the subject of numerous anti-Trump media hit pieces for carrying out his boss’ orders at campaign rallies.
Numerous reporters accused Lewandowski of roughing them up when they got too close to Trump.
Lewandowski vigorously denied grabbing — or even meeting Fields.
In a tweet to Fields dated March 10, Lewandowski wrote: “you are totally delusional. I never touched you. As a matter of fact, I have never even met you.”
Even her employer, conservative website Breitbart News, questioned Fields’ credibility.
Fields was eventually fired by Breitbart News, which supports Trump for president.
“Mr. Lewandowski is absolutely innocent of this charge,” said the Trump campaign in a statement on Tuesday. “He will enter a plea of not guilty and looks forward to his day in court. He is completely confident that he will be exonerated.”
