Timothy Batts, 29, of Hendersonville, TN, is accused of shooting and killing his 11-year-old daughter.
Batts’ daughter, Timea, was killed Monday when she returned home from her first day at Knox Doss Middle School at Drakes Creek.
The convicted felon is charged with reckless homicide, criminal weapon possession, and lying to police. He is being held on $1 million bail.
Batts originally told police his daughter came home from school and told him she was shot.
But investigators later determined the 6th grader was shot inside his house.
Batts turned himself in to police and confessed that he shot his daughter accidentally when she came home from school and “startled” him.
Timea was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, according to The Tennessean.
