A popular Richmond, Virginia hair stylist who worked on the set of Love & Hip-Hop: NY was killed after she confronted another woman over a man.
Police say 33-year-old Karen A. Turner, pictured above, was armed when she arrived at the Blue Ridge Estates apartment complex on Green Cove Drive around 10:40 p.m. Thursday night.
Officials say Turner went there to confront a woman who claimed she was pregnant by Turner’s boyfriend, pictured below at her recent graduation from the University of Phoenix.
Turner reportedly became enraged after she spotted a flier advertising the unnamed woman’s baby shower.
Minutes later, police responding to a shots fired call at the apartment complex found a woman in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Another woman, later identified as Turner, was found shot to death in a car nearby.
The injured woman told police she shot Turner in self defense after the two women argued in the parking lot.
“Officers responded and located the female with a gunshot wound to the leg, but also found a female nearby in a vehicle who was unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound,” a Richmond Police spokesperson said. “She was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was transported to a local hospital with an injury that was not considered life threatening.”
News of Turner’s death spread quickly on Facebook.com on Friday. Friends and clients paid their condolences on her Facebook and Instagram.com pages.
Turner, who recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Phoenix, was the owner of the world-renowned SewIns Express Salon on Hull Street.
Among Turner’s celebrity clients were former reality TV star-turned-rapper Cardi B. and rapper Remy Ma, star of Love and Hip-Hop: NY.
The successful entrepreneur had plans to expand her business to North Carolina, according to friends.
“She was a boss lady,” said Turner’s cousin, Olivia Robinson. “She was traveling. She was becoming a world-renowned traveling stylist. Also franchising SewIns Express.”
A candlelight vigil was held for Turner on Sunday outside SewIns Express. Mourners brought purple balloons and candles in Turner’s favorite color.
Police are investigating her death as a homicide rather than self-defense, according to Crime Insider.
“While all parties in this incident have been identified, no charges have yet been filed,” officials said in a news release Friday.
