The pharmaceutical company that manufactures the antipsychotic medication taken by Tyrese Gibson is looking into his claims that the drug caused his recent psychotic episodes.
The 38-year-old singer/actor was seen acting out in a series of public outbursts that he ultimately blamed on the antipsychotic drug Rexulti, which is prescribed for schizophrenia and as an adjunct therapy for antidepressant medications.
If you recall, the judge in Tyrese’s ongoing child custody case cleared the courtroom so the public wouldn’t hear his psychiatrist describe his mental illness diagnosis.
But in a post on Instagram.com, Tyrese announced he was taking the schizophrenic drug Rexulti that caused him to experience psychotic episodes.
A rep for Otsuka and Lunbeck Pharmaceutical companies tells Theblast.com that they are “looking into” Tyrese’s claims.
The rep said they are “supportive of all people who may be facing challenges with their mental health, and take seriously all reported adverse events potentially involving our medications.”
The drug company said Rexulti “is approved in the U.S as a treatment for adult patients diagnosed with schizophrenia and as an adjunctive treatment to antidepressant medicines for major depressive disorder.”
The rep added: “We encourage people living with any health condition to continually speak with their healthcare provider to determine the best plan for them to reach their treatment goals.”
Tyrese and his ex-wife Norma Gibson are due back in court Tuesday. Norma was granted a temporary restraining order after she accused Tyrese of beating their 10-year-old daughter Shayla so severely she couldn’t sit.
The Fast & Furious actor missed two scheduled visitations with Shayla last week. His recent revelation explains his erratic and seemingly uncontrolled behavior.
The judge ordered Norma to allow Tyrese to see Shayla with a monitor standing by just in case.
Norma has asked the judge to make the restraining order permanent.
