The woman who accused radio jock and Twitter personality Charlamagne tha God of raping her when she was 15 is not ready to give up her battle for justice.
The 40-year-old radio jock, whose real name is Lenard Larry McKelvey, was arrested on July 2, 2001 and charged with “willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously engage in penile/vaginal intercourse with a fifteen year old female child.”
Jessica Reid, now 32 and a mother of four, asked officials to reopen her case so she can get justice and closure.
But Berkeley County Solicitor Scarlett Wilson says the case will not be reopened after “the State allowed Mr. McKelvey to plead guilty to Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and agreed to dismiss the remaining charge.”
Reid is taking her case to the South Carolina Supreme Court.
The Blast obtained a letter Reid sent to John S. Nichols, a deputy for the Supreme Court Office of Disciplinary Counsel in South Carolina.
In the letter, Reid pleads for justice, saying she was uncooperative at the time of the initial rape investigation because she was a minor and she was “traumatized.”
Reid said there was “no investigation done to bring justice,” and she claims McKelvey “continues to violate me on the radio, in his book and on social media.”
McCkelvey has discussed the case numerous times on the radio and in interviews over the years.
In one interview, he claimed to rape a woman he drugged with a stimulant purchased legally over-the-counter. It should be noted that stimulants don’t cause sedation.
McKelvey also admitted raping his own wife in another interview.
Women’s rights advocates are furious that McKelvey — a man who gleefully admits to drugging and raping women — is still employed by iHeartMedia Inc, which owns Power 105.1 radio station in New York City.
A petition to fire McKelvey has reached 18,652 of its stated 19,000 goal.
