Suge Knight has agreed to a plea deal that carries a 28-year prison sentence. The former Death Row Records co-founder struck a plea deal with L.A. prosecutors in exchange for a no contest plea of voluntary manslaughter.
Knight, 53, appeared before a Los Angeles Superior Court judge on Thursday to accept a plea deal. He was given credit for time served of three and-a-half years.
Knight was charged with murder in the 2015 hit-and-run incident that killed Terry Carter and left another man injured.
Knight’s son, Suge Jacob Knight, lashed out at the court system, saying it was unfairly set up so it is unlikely his father will leave prison alive.
“With all his health issues, I’m very worried about my father,” the younger Knight told TMZ.
“He’s a strong dude but he’s human, man. The more he’s in there, his stress is causing his health to be f–ked up. It’s set up for him not to make it out and that’s just the sad part because he doesn’t deserve that. I don’t wish this on anybody. The way it’s set up in there – his diabetes, his health, he needs intensive care all the time.”
He added: “That’s a great man. it’s time to give him a break. A chance. It’s unfair, it’s really unfair.”
Knight will be formally sentenced on October 4. If he survives life behind bars, he will be freed from prison when he is nearly 80 years old.
