Tekashi 69 is a free man — sort of. A New York judge who earlier sentenced rapper Tekashi 69 to four years probation in his child sex case has closed the case and credited him for time served.
Eyebrows were raised in October when a judge sentenced the 22-year-old rapper to four years probation for violating the terms of his plea agreement.
Tekashi avoided serving 3 years in prison for using a minor child in an adult sex film.
Now some observers are saying the judge’s decision may have helped the government’s RICO case by leaving him out on the street so the feds could continue their investigation of his Treyway gang associates.
Tekashi, born Daniel Hernandez, was arrested on Nov. 18 along with his former manager and three other men. They were all charged with federal racketeering for running a criminal enterprise and firearms possession.
On Wednesday, the same judge who earlier sentenced Tekashi to probation, quietly closed his child sex case and dropped the 1,000 hours of community service he was required to perform as part of his probation.
The judge revoked the rapper’s probation and gave him credit for time served — essentially making him a free man as far as the state of New York is concerned.
But Tekashi is still cooling his heels in a federal prison facility after another judge rejected his request for bail. Tekashi faces life in prison if convicted on all charges.
His child sex case dates back to 2015, after he was caught on camera with a naked 13-year-old engaged in a sex act with another man at a party.
Tekashi pleaded guilty to one count of Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance.
