Nick Cannon called out Hollywood’s hypocrisy after comedian Kevin Hart was forced to step down as host of the 2019 Oscar Awards amid public backlash over old tweets.
Hart, 39, was dragged on social media after GLAAD uncovered old tweets he wrote about hoping his son doesn’t turn out ghey.
The comedian said he chose to step down as host of the 2019 Academy Awards rather than apologize for his jokes.
But Hart later changed his mind and apologized — twice — on social media.
“Interesting,” Cannon tweeted on Friday alongside several homophobic tweets by comediennes Amy Schumer and Chelsea Handler from 2010.
“I wonder if there was any backlash here,” Cannon tweeted.
In one tweet, Handler wrote: “This is what a fa–ot bird looks like when he flexes.”
And Amy Schumer tweeted: “Enjoy skyfall fa–ot. I’m bout to get knee deep in Helen Hunt #thesessions.”
Cannon asked why there was no backlash toward the female comedians who hurled homophobic slurs about ghey men.
“I’m just saying, should we keep going???” the 38-year-old comedian tweeted.
He also uncovered an old tweet by Sarah Silverman from 2010, where she wrote, “I don’t mean this in a hateful way but the bachelorette’s a fa–ot.”
Defending her past mistakes, Silverman told The Guardian newspaper, “All I can do is learn from it, be changed forever by it, and do what I can to make it right going forward.”
She added, “Certainly that stuff that I did 10 or 15 years ago, I cringe at now.”
She said she sees her ghey jokes “very differently” now that social media takes offense at everything.
“I feel like unless you can admit to those things, you can’t be changed by them and you can’t even forgive yourself for them,” she said.
Reps for Schumer, Handler and Silverman did not return PEOPLE’s requests for comments.
Cannon himself came under attack by Twitter users after exposing the old tweets.
One Twitter user reminded Cannon that his milk hasn’t been clean in the past on the microblogging network.
“You know I’ve been saying f—ed up sh-t since Twitter started!” Cannon replied. “I don’t play that politically correct bulls–! F— politics!! Only Truth.”
