Michelle Obama has embarked on a new career after leaving the White House. In addition to best-selling author, Mrs. Obama has been a relationship coach to the stars for several years.
One of the former First Lady’s clients is rapper, actor and author Common, whom Obama is helping to realize his dreams of becoming a family man.
It has not been easy for the emotionally unavailable rapper to maintain steady relationships with women. Common has a history of failed relationships with celebrities, including tennis superstar Serena Williams, singer Erykah Badu, actress Taraji P. Henson and political analyst Angela Rye.
The 47-year-old Oscar winner is hoping that relationship coach Michelle Obama’s advice will help him find a soulmate and a wife to raise a family with.
“She has definitely helped talk me through certain moments of relationships. She has given me a lot of wisdom,” Common tells Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts.
Common sat down with Roberts to promote his new book “Let Love Have the Last Word”.
He said one of the nuggets of wisdom Obama told him was to stop looking for that perfect woman because he’s not perfect. She told him he should focus on his core values and mark those values off his list when looking for a woman.
“One great thing that she told me was that you’re not gonna get anybody that’s perfect, because you’re not perfect. So understand that there’s some things that you will compromise in choosing that partner, but as long as the core values, that person marks off on that list, you’re good.”
Common also discussed being molested by a family member as a child. He said he was hesitant to talk about it in his book, but he believes his story will inspire others to reveal their sexual abuse at the hands of a family member.
