In some cultures, when someone dies their debts are forgiven. But not in the United States. American Express has filed a creditor’s claim against Nipsey Hussle’s estate – basically taking food out of his children’s mouths.

American Express bosses filed a creditor’s claim against the slain rapper’s estate in an effort to reclaim almost $50,000 in charges.

Hussle, 33, was gunned down outside his clothing store in March. The shooter, former gang banger Eric Holder, 29, is in jail without bond awaiting trial.

American Express bosses claim Hussle died leaving behind a large bill – and they want their cash.

Legal documents obtained by The Blast note: “The Decedent purchased goods and/or services in the amount of $46,930.67.” The credit card giant is asking the court to freeze the estate’s bank accounts until the debt is paid.

As The Blast first reported, Nipsey’s brother, Blacc Sam, filed documents asking to be named the administrator of the late rapper’s estate on behalf of his 2 children. The rapper did not leave behind a will.

Paramount Recording Group also filed a creditor’s claim against Nipsey’s estate back in May. They were seeking to be paid $32,000 they claimed was owed from a 2012 judgment.

The lawsuit was withdrawn shortly thereafter – an indication that the money was paid.
