Eddie Murphy plans to return to stand up comedy by going out on tour in 2020 after hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time in 35 years.
Murphy, 58, announced he will return to host Saturday Night Live on December 21, 2019. The long-running sketch comedy TV series helped launch his career in the 1980s.
According to Deadline.com, Murphy is rumored to be in talks with Netflix to film his stand up comedy for a series of standup specials.
Murphy’s full length stand-up comedy films, Delirious (1983) and Raw (1987) documented his sold out arena tours in the 1980s.
After releasing Delirious to theaters, Murphy went on to star in hit movies including Beverly Hills Cop (1984), Coming to America (1988), Harlem Nights (1989), as well as voicing the donkey in the highly lucrative Shrek animation films.
In the midst of his huge success as America’s highest paid comedian, Murphy paused to father 5 children with his now ex-wife, Nicole Murphy.
Murphy was recently in Atlanta working on the Coming To America sequel with Arsenio Hall and SNL vet Leslie Jones.
Cannot wait for SNL’s new season! So much material….. and of course, Eddie as the host.

Even though Netflix offered him $70 million for a comedy special Eddie isn’t just going to slap something together, but he knows he’s been out of the comedy game for a minute and he’s will to basically start at the bottom so he can do the best job possible and not just grab the money.

Eddie was writing, producing, and starring in movies that portrayed us in a very beautiful and multidimensional light. Even Beverly Hills Cop portrayed him as real black man a man’s man. No wigs, no drugs, no singing, no shucking or jivin or thugin, ect. I don’t think Hollywood liked that. That stuff came out about him being with that lady boy, which I always believed was a set up, and he was relegated to kids movies which were ok but softned him, then the Klumps, then Dreamgirls where he was a druggy and singer, lol then Norbit. I am a fan but why the drastic change in the types of films he was making? Something happened.

I saw murphy on that Seinfeld show recently, comedians in cars getting coffee. Eddie said that the one thing he regrets is that he stopped doing stand up after he started a family. He told Seinfeld that he misses doing stand up and was working on getting back into it. He said that he hadn’t done it on so long that he was feeling like he had lost his stand up chops but he knew he could get them back once he started working on it again. I’m sure he can because when Eddie was in top form he could just walk out on stage and just stand there and not say a word and the whole crowd would start cracking up hysterically, he was that good.
