DJ Funkmaster Flex ripped into DMX‘s music industry “friends” for not helping him when he was struggling with drug addiction.
The New York deejay took aim at DMX’s music industry pals for not helping the troubled rapper beat his drug addiction.
The 50-year-old Ruff Ryders star is currently in a “vegetative state,” at a Plains, NY hospital, according to reports.
He reportedly suffered a heart attack overdosing on drugs on Friday, April 2. Speaking to Page Six about DMX, Flex said, “(The music business) is a gorilla. It’s a bottomless pit of happiness or depression. I don’t wanna say people don’t help you but I do want to say there are people who actually know (when a star is struggling, but don’t help) sometimes.
He continued: “You don’t always get the best help when money is being made. It’s rough for someone like a DMX who may be in a mental and emotional state of childhood trauma that has happened to him and then being thrown into the money and fame.”
Flex hopes DMX’s story will serve as a cautionary tale for up-and-coming rappers: “I know he shares his demons and we may have to amplify that demon and amplify his story and his feelings so that the next generation can kind of see a little better, a little clearer.”
DMX’s drug addictions started at age 14 when he was tricked into smoking a marijuana cigarette laced with cocaine.
DMX, which stands for Dark Man X, rose to fame in the early 1990s when his debut album It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot sold over 251,000 copies within its first week of release.
A vigil was held for him outside the Hospital on Monday April 5. DMX’s ex-wife Tashera Simmons (left) and his fiancee Desiree Lindstrom (right) were among those in attendance.
DMX’s family, friends and supporters played his music and recalled their favorite memories of the star, who was born Earl Simmons. Some of his 15 children were also present.
