A California judge has denied Britney Spears’ motion to remove her father Jamie Spears as her conservator.
During an emotional hearing last week, Britney and her lawyer pleaded with Judge Brandy Penny to remove Jamie as her conservator of 13 years.
She argued that her father controls every aspect of her life including who she can date and whether she can have children. Britney, a mom-of-two, is forced to wear an IUD for birth control. The singer who is worth $60 million receives a $2,000 weekly allowance.
But Los Angeles Country Superior Court Judge Penny, who is Black, has now denied the request. “The conservatee’s request to suspend James P Spears … is denied without prejudice,” she said in her ruling.
Britney’s dad was initially put in charge as a co-conservator of her personal and professional affairs in 2008, following her infamous mental health breakdown.
However, he has not overseen her personal and business dealings in years due to his failing health and alcoholism.
Jamie Spears lives in an RV trailer in Louisiana near a storage unit that contains memorabilia from his daughter’s pop music career.
He reportedly relinquished part of his control over Britney to Jodi Montgomery, the person Britney’s own lawyer, Sam Ingham, recently requested to be appointed the star’s only conservator.
However, Judge Penny denied the motion on Wednesday.
After hearing the disappointing news, Britney posted videos on social media that shows her dancing in heels and changing into three different two-piece bikinis. The 39-year-old singer’s still flawless bod stunned her 31 million followers.
The pop star is on vacation in Hawaii with her longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari.
Numerous celebrities showed support for Britney on social media, including R&B legend Dionne Warwick, who tweeted that her “heart goes out to Britney Spears” and that she felt the pop star’s pain.
“How in the world could anyone endure what she has been enduring? Thirteen years of bondage – this is exactly what it is,” Warwick said. “Bondage is not something 2021 should even recognize. Give her back her rights, give her back her life. Set her free.”
Britney is best known for her pop hits “Baby One More Time” and “Oops!…I Did it Again,” which each sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
