Congresswoman Maxine Waters slammed the Biden administration in a blistering speech about the appalling treatment of Haitian immigrants at the U.S. border.
Waters condemned Border Patrol agents “whipping” Haitian immigrants at the southern border on Saturday, September 18.
The optics of white Border Patrol agents on horseback chasing down frightened Black people sparked outrage around the world.
After nearly a week of silence on the issue, the congresswoman stepped in front of cameras on Wednesday and railed against the Biden administration.
Using strong language, Waters said “I’m pissed!”. She called out the Biden administration for “taking us back to slavery days.”
“I’m unhappy, and I’m not just unhappy with the cowboys who were running down Haitians and using their reins to whip them — I’m [unhappy] with the [Biden] administration.
“We are following the Trump policy. He is the one that does not follow the Constitution and would not allow those seeking refuge to be able to petition to get into the country.
What the HELL are we doing here?”
She continued:
“What we witnessed takes us back hundreds of years. What we witnessed was worse than what we witnessed in slavery. Cowboys with their reins… whipping Black people – Haitians – into the water where they’re scrambling and falling down.
“All they’re trying to do is escape from violence in their country.”
Waters addressed Pres. Joe Biden directly.
“We’re saying to the president and everybody else: you’ve got to stop this madness!”
Waters concluded by urging reporters to “write the story” about the horrific treatment of Black people by the current administration.
“Write the story! Tell the story about what is going on and let people know that they’re trying to take us back to slavery days!”
