At first glance Viola Davis‘ portrayal of former first lady Michelle Obama seemed like a Saturday Night Live skit.
Davis plays Michelle Obama in a Showtime series titled “The First Lady” that debuted on Sunday night.
In one scene from the series, Davis constantly pursed her lips and made exaggerated facial expressions while speaking to the actor who plays former President Barack Obama.
Black Twitter wondered how Michelle felt about Viola’s over-the-top acting.

Davis continued her exaggerated facial expressions in another scene that looked like it came straight out of Tyler Perry‘s “The Oval” TV series.

It isn’t clear why the Oscar winner played the part of Michelle the way she did. Or if she was directed to play a comical version of the real Michelle
TMZ reports that Davis was taking her role very seriously. But Twitter didn’t think so.
Black Twitter wasn’t happy with Viola’s acting skills. See the comments below.
You telling that nobody in the whole crew, during filming, stopped and thought "no man, that looks so wrong?" And suggested she doesn't do that?

Auntie is legendary, if that's how she thinks Mrs. Obama acts in real life then that's how tf she acts. ????

Wait why do they have Viola talking like this?? I’m annoyed on behalf of Michelle.

Michelle has an underbite that Viola is playing as a pucker & it's so overdone. I don't think anyone thinks about Michelle's lips when they think of her. Plus the energy is all wrong. MO always comes across smooth not panicky VD is doing. It's a shockingly bad turn from an icon.

I might have to ignore this project. Out of respect to Michelle and Viola.

Yea. The secondhand embarrassment is real here ???
I still can't believe she did this. She went way overboard, and no one corrected her to tell her how ridiculous it looked? Not the other actors?? The director? No one???
