Former NBA player Ben Gordon who was charged with punching his 11-year-old son in the face at LaGuardia Airport was arrested again after posting bond Wednesday.
Gordon, 39, spent 2 nights in New York’s notorious Rikers Island Jail before he was released on $20,000 cash bond Wednesday. Hours later, Gordon was arrested again at Harlem’s 32nd Precinct on an outstanding robbery warrant.
According to a police report, Gordon got into an argument with a 19-year-old woman in Harlem on March 12, 2020.
Gordon allegedly grabbed the woman’s phone and smashed it on the ground before elbowing the woman in her eye.
Despite a 2018 order of protection and a history of violence, the mother of Gordon’s son claims he is “an amazing father” who never touched his son.
“You will not tear this black man down,” said Sascha Smith, a chef, Instagram model and mother-of-three. Smith helped raise the $20,000 cash to post Gordon’s bond on Wednesday. Now she must come up with more money on a chef’s salary.
Smith allowed her son to travel with Gordon to New York. But the order of protection prohibited him from taking the boy out of the state of Illinois.
Posting a picture of Gordon and Elijah on her social media, the Chicago native wrote:
“I appreciate everyone reaching out but at this moment I ask that everyone respect the privacy of our family.
“As a mother and protector, I do not play when it comes to my kids or family. I will not allow this media driven world to create a false narrative of an amazing active black father.
“You will not tear this black man down. God Bless.”
Police said Gordon violated the order of protection when he punched his minor son in the face on Monday night.
The 6-foot-3 former shooting guard allegedly punched the child multiple times in front of a crowd of witnesses. At least 6 people called 9-1-1 to report the child abuse incident.
When 2 Port Authority officers tried to arrest Gordon, he resisted arrest and injured one of the officers during the scuffle.
Gordon, who played 11 years in the NBA, has a history of mental and emotional problems.
