Former adult film star-turned content creator Mia Khalifa was fired by Playboy for expressing her support for Hamas, Palestine militants who invaded Israel over the weekend.
Celebrities from Amar’e Stoudemire to Kylie Jenner have expressed their support for Israel amid the conflict with Palestine.
On Saturday morning, Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel. They fired thousands of rockets into Israel, killing over 1,600 citizens and 11 Americans.
Israel retaliated by bombing the Gaza Strip, killing hundreds of Hamas militants.
After voicing her support for Hamas online, Playboy notified Mia Khalifa that she was fired for making “disgusting and reprehensible comments” about Hamas, who she referred to as “freedom fighters.”
Playboy ended its relationship with Khalifa after getting numerous complaints from other creators.
In an email, the company said it terminated “Playboy’s relationship with Mia Khalifa, including deleting Mia’s Playboy channel on our creator platform.”
“Over the past few days, Mia has made disgusting and reprehensible comments celebrating Hamas’ attacks on Israel and the murder of innocent men, women and children,” Playboy wrote. “At Playboy, we encourage free expression and constructive political debate, but we have a zero tolerance policy for hate speech. We expect Mia to understand that her words and actions have consequences.”
One of the comments that got Khalifa in hot water was a post on Twitter/X:
“Can someone please tell the freedom fighters in Palestine to flip their phones and film horizontal. I just wanna make sure there’s 4k footage of my people breaking down the walls of the open air prison they’ve been forced out of their homes and into so we have good options for the history books.”
Khalifa was also fired by a psychedelic mushroom company that sponsored her tweets.
“This is such a horrendous tweet @miakhalifa. Consider yourself fired effective immediately,” Red Light Holland CEO Todd Shapiro wrote on Saturday.
An outraged Khalifa responded, “Please worry about your sad little company lacking direction and purpose before you utter my name again. I stand with all people fighting oppression, now and always.”
She continued: “Do your research before begging for my investment in your little project, I’m from LEBANON, are you insane for expecting me to be on the side of colonialism you f—ing weirdo.”
