Nichelle Strong, aka old skool rapper Nikki D, has some harsh criticism for today’s female rappers.
The hip-hop veteran was known for her female empowerment lyrics as the First Lady of Def Jam Records in the 1980s and 1990s.
Nikki D, 55, made headlines recently when she called rappers Ice Spice and Megan Thee Stallion the “prostitution era of rap.”
In an interview with All Hip Hop, Nikki D shared the sentiments of other female hip-hop icons who are critical of today’s sexually explicit female rappers.
“When I call it the prostitution era, it’s simply what I saw with the [Ice Spice] performance, right?” Nikki said.
“I saw the the video online and I said ‘What is this?’ I looked at it and shorty’s dress was literally above her butt. And I was like nothing was out but skin a-s, like this is not the girl that I remember. I felt like she had kind of pushed herself into a place of no return. Now when you out there it’s like walking outside, butt-nekkid, what else do we have?”
Nikki said rappers like Megan Thee Stallion, 28, and Ice Spice, 23 (pictured right with Doja Cat), leave nothing to the imagination.
“Where’s the surprise? Where’s the mystery? Even [Megan Thee Stallion] for instance. I loved Megan Thee Stallion initially. Meg had bars…”
She continued:
“There was some talent there. There was some rhymes. There was something. Because we didn’t lay the bricks for nothing, so you two could come out and turn around showing a-s. And then every lyric is my P, my a-s, my this, my that. And they’re raised differently in this generation, just in general just as people, not even as artists.”
