U.S. House Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene broke the Internet on Friday night when she announced her resignation from Congress.
Greene, who represents Georgia’s 14th district, was sworn into office in January 2021. She will resign effective January 5, 2026 after vesting her federal pension.
Greene resigned amid her public feud with President Donald Trump on social media this past week. She was Trump’s most loyal supporter in the GOP.
Greene went head-to-head with Trump after calling on the president to release the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Trump called Greene a “traitor” and withdrew his endorsement for her run for Senator.

“He called me a traitor, and that is so extremely wrong, and those are the types of words used that can radicalize people against me and put my life in danger,” said Greene in a statement last week.
Greene announced her resignation in a video on X. “I refuse to be a ‘battered wife’ hoping it all goes away and gets better,” she said.
“If I am cast aside by MAGA Inc and replaced by Neocons, Big Pharma, Big Tech, Military Industrial War Complex, foreign leaders, and the elite donor class that can’t even relate to real Americans, then many common Americans have been cast aside and replaced as well.”
In response to Greene’s statement, Trump told reporters her departure was “great news for the country. It’s great.”.
He later posted on Truth Social, “For some reason, primarily that I refused to return her never ending barrage of phone calls, Marjorie went BAD.”
Trump added that he would “always appreciate Marjorie and thank her for her service to our country”.
Greene also posted a lengthy written statement on X, saying she didn’t want to endure being primaried “by the president we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms.”
She continued: “And in turn, be expected to defend the President against impeachment after he hatefully dumped tens of millions of dollars against me and tried to destroy me…. Loyalty should be a two-way street.”
