
Coral Springs, Florida Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen was fatally shot in her home in an apparent domestic incident on Wednesday.
Her husband, Stephen Bowen, was arrested and charged with her murder, the Coral Springs Police Department confirmed in a press conference on Wednesday.
Sources said a friend called Metayer Bowen but was unable to reach her. The friend called Stephen Bowen, who “sounded suspicious.” They then called 911 to request a welfare check.

Police found Metayer Bowen deceased around 10 a.m. at her home.
A BOLO (Be on the lookout) was issued for Stephen Bowen. License plate readers hit on his vehicle traveling south on U.S. 441. He was arrested at a friend’s home in the Landmark Towers apartment complex in Plantation, Florida.

Bowen, 40, was booked into the Broward County Jail on Wednesday.
Metayer Bowen, 38, became the first Black and Haitian American woman elected to the Coral Springs Commission in 2020. Four years later, she won re-election unopposed.
She was also Vice Chair of the Florida Democratic Party and was planning to run for Congress.
