Rapper and singer-songwriter Gwendolyn “Blondy” Chisolm, of ’70s Hip-Hop group The Sequence, died on Monday, April 6. She was 68.

Chisolm’s family confirmed she died following a brief illness.

“My sister gave a lot of herself to the music industry,” Monica Scott, Chisolm’s sister, said in a statement to Billboard. “Everyone knows her famous lyrics and melodies, which continue to bring joy to millions of people. She was a creative force who touched countless hearts.”

Chisolm’s bandmate Angie Stone, 63, was killed in a traffic accident in Montgomery County, Alabama in March 2025. Stone and Chisolm formed The Sequence with Cheryl “The Pearl” Cook in 1979. They released their first hit song, “Funk You Up” that same year.

Their first album, Sugar Hill Presents The Sequence, debuted in 1980 on Sugar Hill Records and was the first album released by an all-female act.

Their follow-up self-titled album in 1982 was a limited commercial success. The group’s final album The Sequence Party was released in 1983.

Chisolm and her group mates met at C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia, South Carolina, where they were all cheerleaders.

“‘Funk You Up’ comes from a cheer,” Chisolm told Rolling Stone in 2017. “‘Funk You Up’ was [sings]: ‘We’re gonna blow you, right on out. We’re gonna blow you right on out.'” Chisolm also sang with Stone in their church choir.

“Funk You Up” has been sampled by artists including En Vogue, Boogie Down Productions, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Ice Cube, Flavor Flav, De La Soul, Trina, and Dr. Dre, who borrowed the “ring ding dong” hook for his 1995 smash hit “Keep Their Heads Ringin'”.

“For everybody that has used our music, we should have been millionaires a long time ago,” said Cook.

In 2016, Chisolm, Cook and Stone accused Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars of stealing their work on 2016’s Record of the Year and Grammy winner, “Uptown Funk.”

They pointed to the bridge that is very similar to the chorus of their hit track, “Funk … you … right on up.”

“Bruno Mars took the lyrics, the cadence and the melodies,” said Stone in 2016, “and then they went and reached over to ‘Apache’ [Sugarhill Gang’s 1981 hit song co-written by Cook] and got ‘Jump on it/Jump on it.’ I’m like, OK, now y’all done did too much. We’re broke over here, OK? We need some money. We need some of that, because we created that!”

“We damn near 60 years old,” Chisolm said. “It’s nothing funny about this. We still have to work. Cheryl lost her grandmama’s house due to not being able to pay her bills.”

In an email to Sandrarose.com in February 2016, publicist Kali Bower suggested the family of Sugar Hill Records founder Sylvia Robinson (who died in 2011) didn’t share the record’s royalties with the group.

“With respect to [the] Robinson family, it has been quite a lengthy process of formal and informal dealings with the Robinson family. It has been a rough ride for the ladies, in attempts to settle all issues surrounding the music.”

An aspiring rapper from Detroit, Michigan was found fatally shot in her Range Rover Sport SUV in the middle of an Atlanta street on Wednesday night.

Qualeisha Barnes, 36, was 14 weeks pregnant, her family said.

According to 11 Alive News, Barnes was found deceased in the front seat of her white SUV around 1:30 a.m. on Springfield Place SE Atlanta. Police believe the gunman shot Barnes from outside the SUV.

Barnes was known by her stage name “Siditty,” and she was the CEO of an online clothing boutique, So Siditty.

Barnes’ family and friends paid tribute to her in posts on social media.

“I know her as Qualeisha. I know her as LeLe. I know her as we, in the same house, in the same bed. That’s what I know her as. All that friend stuff, I don’t care about none of that. That was my sister. That was my baby,” said Shatara Davis, Barnes’ sister.

“Generally, if you met LeLe, you instantly loved her and she was such a jokester. She liked to laugh, and she was always cracking jokes on me,” said her mother, Francine Lopez-Stewart.

Christina Aguilera and Beyoncé were both called out by their fans for wearing wigs and extensions in hair care ads recently.

Christina, 45, appears in a Nexxus ad discussing beauty, authenticity, and her new hair phase with Nexxus hair care products. In one ad she is seen promoting the Keraphix line to reduce damage and breakage caused by high heat.

Christina says she’s gone through many hair phases and colors including platinum blonde, black, bubblegum pink, and intense red. Despite all the damage, her hair still looks healthy. She said that’s due to using the right products.

But observers say she is wearing a platinum blonde wig in the ad, not her real hair.

Celebrities often wear wigs or hair extensions to add volume to their hair. They are always on-the-go, so wigs are a convenience that they can easily afford.

But when a celebrity promotes hair care products, fans expect authenticity and natural hair to demonstrate the effectiveness of the products they’re promoting.

One fan wrote on Reddit.com: “Sabrina Carpenter has a Redken deal, most hair ads feature extensions in some capacity and some are more obvious than others.”

Another fan wrote: “Pulling out the rapunzel wig to sell haircare is diabolical.”

A third person wrote: “Like sure but anyone acting like celebrities are actually using the products they do ads for were born yesterday.”

In a panic, Anna tells Gabriella that she’s Matteo’s fiancée. But when Matteo’s cousin, Michael (Regé-Jean Page) shows up at the villa, Anna discovers that their chance encounter may transform her life.

“I felt like I could relate so much to Anna’s character about finding her way, going through her ups and downs and her journey,” Halley said of her character. “She’s very impulsive, she’s very smart, very fiery, and is a doer; she’s just gonna do it. I could see pieces of myself in her.”

“Tuscany” is directed by Kat Coiro and produced by Johanna Byer, Will Packer and Scott Putman. The movie was filmed on location in Pienza, a town in Tuscany, Italy in 2025.

If you recall, Halle took her son, Halo, with her to Italy when she filmed this movie.

Her ex, DDG, a former rapper-turned YouTube streamer, requested an emergency hearing to prevent Halle from taking their son to Italy. He claimed Halle is mentally unstable and suffers from mental issues.

The Department of Justice announced Pam Bondi will not sit for a deposition regarding the Epstein files.

President Trump fired Bondi as U.S. attorney general last week.

The DOJ on Wednesday announced that Bondi will not have to testify since the summons was addressed to the attorney general. Bondi is no longer AG.

Trump appointed Todd Blanche as acting United States attorney general on April 2.

“The Department of Justice has stated Pam Bondi will not appear on April 14 for a deposition since she is no longer attorney general and was subpoenaed in her capacity as Attorney General,” a House Oversight Committee spokeswoman told Fox News Digital in a statement. “The Committee will contact Pam Bondi’s personal counsel to discuss next steps regarding scheduling her deposition.”

Democrat lawmakers accuse Trump of firing Bondi so she won’t have to testify before the House Oversight Committee as part of its probe into the Epstein files.

Democrats say the committee has not withdrawn the subpoena, so she will still have to testify.

“Now that Pam Bondi has been fired, she’s trying to get out of her legal obligation to testify before the Oversight Committee about the Epstein files and the White House cover-up,” House Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., said on Wednesday. “Our bipartisan subpoena is to Pam Bondi, whether she is the attorney general or not.”

Garcia added that the committee will hold Bondi in contempt of Congress if she does not comply with the subpoena to appear before the panel.

Stefon Diggs, his mother, Stephanie Diggs, and his brother, Trevon Diggs, attended Cardi B’s Washington, DC concert on Wednesday. Page Six speculates that they may be back together since Stefon wasn’t escorted out by security.

Stephanie and her sons danced to Cardi B’s verse on Blueface’s “Thotiana Remix.”

Stefon and Cardi broke up in February, hours before the New England Patriots took on the Seattle Seahawks at Super Bowl LX in the Bay Area. Cardi B was reportedly upset that he flew his baby mamas out to watch him play in the Super Bowl.

After the Patriots lost the Super Bowl, Stefon was dismissed from the team. He is currently an NFL free agent with 8 children to feed.

Cardi and Stefon dated for over a year, and they welcomed a son, Baby Brim, in November 2025. “Brim” is the name of a New York street gang that Cardi B is affiliated with.

Cardi is on the final leg of her “Little Miss Drama Tour” to support her album, Am I the Drama?

The viral video sparked speculation that Cardi and Stefon may be reuniting.

“Just wonderful. I pray that the Diggs family and cardiologist reunite,” wrote @Jenniferirenela on X.com.

“I love that they all came out to support her,” wrote @nattybubble26.

“Cardi [is] family now. Love to see it,” agreed @VanessaBody.

@TeeDaGoddess wrote: “For those that are so nosey about the relationship between Cardi and Baby Brim’s dad. Now if he never showed up once, that would have been dragged out. So let’s stop and let her work. Glad the support was shown back! Stop it!”

Nia Long, Colman Domingo, and Jaafar Jackson grace the April 2026 cover of ESSENCE‘s digital magazine. Colman, Jaafar and Nia star in Michael Jackson‘s upcoming biopic.

The musical, directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, documents Michael’s journey from Gary, Indiana as the 9-year-old lead singer of the Jackson 5, to become the King of Pop.

Casting began in January 2023, with Jermaine Jackson‘s son, Jaafar, being cast as his famous uncle.

Nia Long plays Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mom, while Colman Domingo plays Joe Jackson, Michael’s father.

Filming began in January 2024, after being delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.

“It was a really long shoot. So we had to love each other,” Nia said of the cast’s chemistry.

“The goal for us, for me, was to just honor Michael in a way that would just make the fans excited,” Nia added. “We wanted to tell the story the way the story really needs to be told, but also, we wanted fans to get excited that this was happening. And to have Jaafar at the center of it was really amazing because he’s an extension of the family.”

Jaafar, 29, spent nearly two and a half years working with Michael’s choreographers to learn his late uncle’s complex dance moves. Nia says Jaafar was totally immersed in the role.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” she said.

Colman added: “His work ethic is top-notch, so it was just amazing to watch him be in the center of this every single day.”

The biopic has been in the works since November 2019. Lionsgate announced the movie in February 2022. Instead of playing it safe by streaming, Lionsgate announced the film would open worldwide in movie theaters.

Michael is scheduled for theatrical release on April 24, 2026, by Lionsgate in the United States and Universal Pictures internationally.

Karlissa throws shade at Blueface and his “trailer park trash groupies”

Blueface’s mom Karlissa Saffold dissed her “scribble face” rapper son and his “trailer park trash groupies” in a recent post.

In an Instagram Stories post, Karlissa referred to Blueface as a “washed up rapper” and his 3 baby mamas as “a group a dirty pennies for [baby mamas].”

She added:

“Nobody give a funk about how you feel about me. I’ll buy another son, funk you, fat ssa reject scribble face, slow ssa dirty house ssa, shitty ssa ninja. Yo 304 [h*e] don’t even take showers. Them trailer park trash groupies. Wit yo broka ssa.”

Blueface, 29, is expecting a child with his fiancee Navaeh Akira. The baby will be his fourth.

In November, Karlissa, 54, clashed with Blueface’s then-girlfriend Hazel-E, after the 45-year-old reality TV star called her “moms.”

Some mothers can’t take rejection when their sons choose other women over them. Many sons walk that fine line between giving equal devotion to their moms and their significant others.

In 2024, comedic actor Marlon Wayans told The New York Times that he never got married because he didn’t want his mother – who died in 2020 – to be “jealous of another woman.”

Rapper Kodak Black is going viral after a fan’s kiss sparked confusion and debates online.

The incident happened at a nightclub over the weekend. The video shows a young fan kissing Kodak on the cheek. The fan wears a black crop top, a black wig and an oversized baseball cap.

The Internet claims the fan was not assigned female at birth. They point out the fan’s wide shoulders, big hands and breast implants. But it could go either way.

Elon Musk’s AI chatbot @Grok claims the person kissing Kodak is his artist, aspiring rapper Just Brittany.

Grok writes:

“The person who kissed Kodak Black in that video is Just Brittany—a rapper and artist signed to his label. The ‘allegedly a man’ rumors are just unconfirmed online speculation with no evidence.”
