First let me say Happy New Year and welcome to 2008! I wasn’t going to update today but there is so much going on that I thought I would go ahead and post some pics from last night’s festivities around the country.

Edit: Yes, I edited this post because I was joking about JD but some of you have no sense of humor.

Anyway, Jermaine Dupri did accomplish what he set out to do: he did bring 5 Jacksons to his trendy nightclub for his NYE bash in Tucker, Georgia. From what I could make out in this grainy video, Marlon, Jermaine, Tito, Jackie (and Janet who didn’t mingle much) did make it out to the affair.

My source who was there said Janet did as much as she could to disappear into the fabric of the seat cushions she was sitting on. Janet should stop acting like she’s an enigma because that time will come when she will be to old and decrepit to enjoy life and she is going to wish she could have these years back.

Beating suspect turns himself in

Police said that Apollo Holmes, 24, wanted in connection with last week’s assault on fitness trainer Darius Miller, turned himself in Monday morning.

Atlanta police spokesman James Polite said Holmes turned himself in at the Fulton County jail about 8 a.m. Monday. A warrant charges Holmes with aggravated assault in the attack on Miller. Polite said more arrests are possible.

Miller, 41, was beaten after trying to stop a group of men from videotaping a group that included Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin’s daughters, Kai Franklin Graham and Kali Jamilla Franklin outside of the popular Atlanta nightclub Verve around 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, according to a police report.

Polite said Miller remained in critical condition in a coma Monday at Emory Crawford Long Hospital. (Source)

NBA star threatens to sue Chicago blogger

NBA star Antoine Walker is so perturbed at a Chicago blogger that he unleashed his attorneys in an effort to force her to stop exposing his dirty laundry.

LaShonda Matlock who runs the popular E-Biz blog, was served with a cease & desist letter today from Walker’s attorney after she ran a series of eye-opening posts like the one below:

The NBA star is due to appear in Chicago Cook County Circuit Court today with his charity organization “The 8 Foundation” due to breech of contract. Antoine, who hired and still employs convicted felons to handle his payment arrangements for the staff and contracted security firm, seemed to “forget” to pay some people mainly-security.Also, Antoine has been rolling with some more “bad” people.

One person in particular, his “best friend” Reginald Potts . Reginald, who attended all of Antoine’s Chicagoland All-Star Classic weekend events this year and was spotted driving around in a white Bentley (wearing a white linen suit/white knit cap to nightclub Excalibur on August 12th 2007) is currently being held on first-degree murder charges in the death of 28-year-old Nailah Franklin! Some of you may recall Walker was recently the victim of a violent home invasion in Chicago. Now it seems the home invasion may not have been so random after all.

Janet Jackson covers Prestige magazine

The Janet Jackson hype machine has started in high gear with the release of her first single “Feedback” off her upcoming CD. One of the first of many prints interviews is this exclusive interview for Hong Kong’s Prestige magazine.

Janet talks about her… wait for it… struggles with weight, and her struggles with her boyfriend Jermaine Dupri in the studio:

But if there is something that we both feel differently about, it just should really be talked about and that’s the way we’ve always done it. Except this time around I see Usher and Mariah [Carey] coming out of the studio and I say, “Okay, wait, aren’t you supposed to be working on my stuff? We’re supposed to be doing our stuff together.” And he goes, “Well yeah,” and I’m like, “Why are they here, don’t I come before them when it’s time for the album to be released?” Not because I’m his girlfriend [laughs], but for the release of the album. Mine has to be released first, so doesn’t it make sense to get me out of the way first? But it’s all good.

Damon Dash in line to succeed Jay Z

I’ve been telling my readers for months that former Roc-A-Fella founder Damon Dash would be named president of Def Jam once Jay Z‘s contract expired. It just makes sense, doesn’t it? Damon Dash made Jay Z and taught him everything he knows about the business. Without Dame there would be no Jay Z.

Jay Z repaid Dash’s loyalty by orchestrating a hostile takeover of Rocafella and abandoning his former mentor. But if Dash felt the industry had turned its back on him – all of that is about to change. Dash’s name is at the forefront of names to succeed Jay Z as president of Def Jam, including Jimmy “Henchman” Rosemond, Damon Dash, Chuck D and Jermaine Dupri.

A recent lawsuit filed against Dash is being seen as a last ditch attempt to thwart Dash’s chances of getting the top job. A lawsuit filed by Jamie Roberts, of Atlanta, alleges Damon Dash exposed his genitals to her three years ago resulting in an acute case of schizoprenia that has developed into active psychosis.

Police name suspect in trainer assault case

Atlanta police on Friday issued a warrant for the arrest of a 24-year-old Georgia man in connection with the savage beating of a popular celebrity fitness trainer last weekend. Darius Miller, 41, was attacked by a group of men after he asked them to stop videotaping the mayor’s daughters outside D’Jangos lounge.

The warrant charges Apollo Holmes in the attack, according to police spokeswoman Judy Pal. Holmes’ whereabouts were unknown on Sunday but police are expected to name more suspects.

The beating left Miller in a coma and he is listed in critical condition at Crawford Long hospital. The hospital has seen a steady stream of high profile clients of Miller’s including Keisha Knight Pulliam, Ma$e, Usher, Takeo Spikes, who has visited everyday, and Takeo’s girlfriend T-Boz, formerly of TLC.

Atlanta mayor Shirley Franklin, who is on a ski trip with her 8-year-old grandson, issued a couple of tersely worded statements that were highly critical of the media’s coverage of the case. In both statements she referred to a “media frenzy” which prompted one Fox 5 news reporter to ask another, “Do you know anything about a media frenzy?”

In issuing those written statements, the mayor hopes to deflect attention away from her daughter, Kai Franklin Graham‘s legal troubles. Earlier this month, Franklin-Graham copped a plea deal to a federal charge of accepting drug money from her ex-husband, convicted cocaine trafficker Tremayne Graham.

In return for her cooperation in the ongoing investigation of her ex-husband’s associates, Franklin-Graham will be sentenced to three years of probation – three months of which will be home confinement.

Any woman who has embraced the single life and learned to love herself unconditionally (independent of a man), can relate to the premise behind Trina‘s new single & video “Single Again.”

As I told you last week, Miami’s “Diamond Princess” Trina was shooting a video for her independent ladies anthem “Single Again.” In the video, Trina is so content with married life that she literally floats on water.

Trina also embraces the single life by taking a solo stroll down the aisle to extol the virtues of being single.

Of course reality is always more exciting than fiction. Word is, Trina and NBA star Kenyon Martin are a new couple – and Trina doesn’t care if his wife Heather Martin knows it.

But Heather Thompson Martin is no stranger to cheating: a buddy who grew up with her in California alleges Heather cheated on her first husband with Kenyon. The buddy says Heather even left her 3 daughters with her first husband in Carson when she got knocked up by Kenyon.

Supposedly, her oldest daughter wasn’t even her husband’s but she left her with him anyway. Wow, that’s cold. And I thought Atlanta women were trifling!

Rumor Control: Ciara says there is no sex tape

R&B princess Ciara arrived in Atlanta today fresh off her European tour. The first thing she wanted to get off her chest were the rumors floating around about a sex tape featuring herself and rapper Chingy. Personally, I didn’t know there was a rumor about a sex tape, but apparently Ciara stays on top of these rumors, I guess.

Ciara told a friend she has not nor will ever be in a sex tape with Chingy. And furthermore, why would she be in a sex tape with Chingy? I concur.

Ciara was also asked what her plans were for New Year’s Eve, but Ciara said she won’t know where she will ring in the New Year until Sunday.

Actress turns sex tape over to cops

There are strong rumors about a real sex tape floating around featuring a well-known actress (not Ciara) giving head to a male friend.  Certain well-placed sources in Atlanta have seen the tape and a copy of it is currently in the hands of the Atlanta police.

The B-list actress does not live in Atlanta but she spent time here recently.  And word is she may have been drunk when the tape was made.  I’m told the B-list actress is pulling out all stops to make sure this tape does not hit the Internets.  The problem is, the police are emailing the tape to each other and to friends against department policy.

The only reason I’m posting this is out of curiosity; I just want to see the tape :).  If anyone has a copy of that tape and doesn’t mind forwarding it to me, I will treat it with the utmost decency and decorum.  You can trust me officer.
