Kanye West dropped out of Coachella music festival following public backlash over his social media posts attacking ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her boyfriend Pete Davidson.

Organizers tapped pop singer The Weeknd to take Kanye's place, but there's one problem: The Weeknd wants the same $8.5 million that Kanye left on the table.

Apparently, Coachella organizers don't think The Weeknd is worth as much as Kanye, aka Ye.

The organizers allegedly tried to shortchange The Weeknd after he stepped in to replace Ye as headliner later this month.

According to Page Six, The Weeknd threatened to pull out if the organizers didn't give him equal pay as Ye, who was set to earn $8 million plus a $500,000 production fee.

A source tells Page Six, "The Weeknd came in at short notice to take Kanye's top spot. But Phil Anschutz [who owns the Coachella Festival] wanted to hold on to Kanye's money and pay The Weeknd far less, just a few million. The festival would pocket the rest."

The Weeknd caught wind of Ye's aborted payday and demanded he receive all of the money - not just a measly $3 million. After all, The Weeknd has bills to pay, too.

The demand led to hastily arranged meetings between Anschutz and The Weeknd's people.

Coachella organizers announced early Wednesday that The Weeknd, 32, and house music supergroup Swedish House Mafia would take over for Ye on Sunday, April 17, and Sunday, April 24.

The source tells Page Six: "Even after Coachella announced the new lineup on Wednesday, a deal wasn't in place for The Weeknd, who threatened to pull out at an hour's notice if he didn't get the same deal as Kanye."

"Finally, on Wednesday — faced with the prospect of a second headline act pulling out of Coachella at the last minute — Anschutz's company caved and agreed to pay The Weeknd the same money," the source said.

Rapper Kanye West has dropped out of the 2022 Coachella music festival.

Kanye is the second bold name rapper to lose a Coachella spot to cancel culture.

Rapper Travis Scott was pulled as a headliner after 10 fans died and hundreds more were injured at his Astroworld music festival in Houston, Texas in November.

Sources connected to Kanye, also known as Ye, tell TMZ he didn't give a reason for pulling out of the 2-weekend-long event in Indio, CA -- which starts next weekend.

Travis Scott was supposed to join Ye onstage - as his special guest - but that is now out of the question, according to TMZ.

Coachella organizers were not averse to Travis joining Ye onstage, but Travis is still canceled as far as Coachella is concerned. Not even a petition signed by thousands of fans can save Travis.

Ye, pictured with rapper Future, fell out of favor with Hollywood's elites after his unhinged social media posts attacking ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her current boyfriend, Pete Davidson. He also lashed out at TV host Trevor Noah and blogger Perez Hilton.

Hollywood insiders whisper that Ye's social media manager, Jason Lee, allegedly wrote those posts.

TMZ broke the story, Ye's racist attack on Noah got him suspended from Instagram for 24 hours last month - and he hasn't posted on Instagram since.

Ye's cancellation leaves Coachella with headliners Billie Eilish, Harry Styles and Swedish House Mafia - all white artists.

Kanye West is drawing criticism from Astroworld victims for demanding pop singer Billie Eilish apologize to his pal Travis Scott.

Kanye, also known as Ye, threatened to withdraw as co-headliner at Coachella if the pop superstar didn't apologize to Travis.

10 people tragically died after a stampede/crowd surge at Travis' Astroworld music festival on Nov. 5.

Billie recently paused mid-concert in Atlanta when a fan in the crowd showed signs of distress. "Give her some time. Don't crowd," the singer said. "I wait for people to be OK until I keep going."

Media outlets, including TMZ, interpreted Billie's words as a diss to Scott who continued performing while his fans were dying around him.

Kanye also took offense to Billie's words, and he demanded that she apologize to his friend.

According to Complex.com, the grandparents of Astroworld's youngest victim Ezra Blount, 9, criticized Kanye for his "hurtful" and "ridiculous" demand.

"To hear Kanye's words, that's hurtful to us. What an idiotic thing to say," Bernon Blount, Ezra's grandfather, told Rolling Stone.

Grandmother Tericia Blount stopped short of calling Kanye a raving lunatic.

"I think it's just crazy, and I hate to use that word, but I think it's ridiculous. She's making sure that she is caring for the patrons at her concert, and I just think that’s crazy of Kanye to even let that demand come out of his mouth."

Rapper Ye, formerly Kanye West, has been officially announced as headliner to replace Travis Scott in the Coachella lineup.

Travis was removed as headliner following the tragedy when 10 people died at his Astroworld Festival in Houston in November.

Variety reports that pop singer Billie Eilish and Swedish House Mafia will headline on Saturday, while Ye headlines Sunday night.

Meanwhile, Ye has been jet-setting around the world before going out on a romantic date with actress Julia Fox. The couple was seen on a date in New York City on Tuesday, before he jetted to Miami solo.

The Coachella music festival has already sold out 125,000 per-day tickets, despite pesky Omicron "cases" surging in America.

The 2020 Coachella was postponed due to Covid-19. It was originally slated to have Travis Scott, Frank Ocean and Rage Against the Machine as headliners.

Meanwhile, friends are concerned that Ye has been wearing the same clothes for days at a time.

Friends say Ye is having difficulty getting over estranged wife Kim Kardashian who is spending most of her time with comedian Pete Davidson -- away from her 4 children.

People who are depressed tend to neglect their hygiene and wear the same clothes for days on end.

Travis Scott was turned down when he begged Coachella to let him perform for free. Festival organizers told Scott's team that the troubled rapper was dropped from the 2022 lineup. The festival and the city of Indio offered to pay a "kill fee" of 25% for dropping the rapper, according to Variety.

The cancellation is the latest fallout stemming from Scott's Astroworld catastrophe in Houston, where 10 people died during a stampede in November.

Sources tell Deadline.com that Scott's longtime agent, Cara Lewis, pleaded with the festival organizers to let Scott perform for free.

The insider said Lewis is desperate to keep the gig, which would have marked Scott's first return to the stage since the Astroworld tragedy.

In a last-ditch effort to salvage what's left of his career, Scott, 30, sat down with Charlamagne the god for an exclusive interview last week.

The interview angered families of the victims who say he didn't show any remorse.

Scott was arrested twice in the past for inciting his fans to storm the stage.

In one video, Scott directed a fan to jump from a balcony that was at least 15 feet above the floor.

Another fan who jumped from a 3rd story balcony broke both legs and injured his spine.

The fallout continues for "Sicko Mode" rapper Travis Scott as more brands distance themselves from him.

Scott had hoped his sit-down interview with Charlamagne the god last week would bring comfort and healing to the families of the victims who died or were injured at his Astroworld Festival.

But Scott's first interview since his Astroworld catastrophe only angered his victims' loved ones.

Coachella organizers announced the troubled rapper will not grace the stage in 2022. And Anheuser-Busch canceled his spiked CACTI seltzers, which have been in stores for less than a year.

The city of Indio announced Coachella axed Scott's planned performance next year. The decision comes after an online petition garnered more than 75,000 signatures.

And Anheuser-Busch deleted the CACTI seltzer brand's social media accounts on Instagram and Twitter.

In a statement, Anheuser-Busch said the brand's fans would understand the decision to torpedo Scott's seltzer drinks.

"After careful evaluation, we have decided to stop all production and brand development of CACTI Agave Spiked Seltzer. We believe brand fans will understand and respect this decision," a spokesperson for the company said in a statement, per AdAge.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is reportedly canceled due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak in the US.

The Coachella music festival is held in April every year in Indio, California. Coachella and the follow up Stagecoach festival have been moved to October this year.

Artists who received top billing at Coachella in the past include Beyonce and Jay-Z, Kanye West, Ariana Grande, The Weekend, Tyler, the Creator, and more.

This year's lineup included Doja Cat (pictured left), Travis Scott, Frank Ocean, Rage Against the Machine, Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby, 21 Savage, Big Sean, City Girls, Lana Del Rey, Lil Uzi Vert, FKA Twigs, Ari Lennox, Lil Nas X, and many more.

Music fans expressed their disappointment on social media. Many agree that organizers are overreacting to a virus that is no worse than the flu.
