Paula Patton was vacationing in Mexico with her son, Julian, when her mom's original fried chicken recipe went viral on social media.

Black Twitter dragged the actress for washing the chicken in cold water and putting seasoning in the cooking oil instead of marinating the chicken in seasoning overnight the way Jamaicans do it.

Paula was gracious and acknowledged the criticism in a video on her Instagram account. She didn't go in too hard on her critics.

"I just wanted to respond and say, listen, I get it. It might look crazy. It is the way we do it. My mom taught me. It is my mom's recipe," she said.

Paula also said, because of the way the video was edited, it may not look like she washed the chicken in water long enough. She said she did wash the chicken, because she fed the chicken to her son and his entire school.

There is no need to soak chicken in vinegar or lemon juice because bacteria can't survive in 425-degree temperatures in the oven.

"It's all good, because everybody's got their own way of making things," Paula said. "I'll take suggestions. I make a new kind of fried chicken, but I'm gonna always make my mom's chicken the way that she did it. We put the seasoning in the oil and all that. It's just the way we do it."

Not everyone can throw down in the kitchen like Colonel Sanders. Take Chef Paula Patton, for example.

Paula's original fried chicken recipe has all of twitter dragging her for daring to share her mom's secret recipe.

TikTok user TheTrackQueen criticized Paula for washing her chicken in cold water.

Cooks wash chicken in cold water because bacteria can't survive in an oven set to 425 degrees farenheit. Vinegar is for cleaning counters, not cleaning chicken.

The video went viral, racking up over 5 million views.

Twitter users are still dragging poor Paula. Things really went left when Twitter blamed Paula's mixed race for her original chicken recipe.

One Twitter user wrote:

"Dear Black People: Spend more time with your mixed children and teach them how to make Black and Southern food properly. Paula Patton’s chicken is a disgrace to our cuisine."

Everyone fries chicken differently. Who are they to tell Paula how to fry her chicken?

Imagine if messy Twitter users were around back in the day when Colonel Sanders created his secret recipe. KFC restaurants would be non-existent today.

Paula Patton opened up about her racial identity in a sit-down interview with SiriusXM's "The Clay Cane Show."

Paula, whose mother is white and father is Black, says she's "grateful" for her mother, but the term "biracial" offends her sensibilities.

"I find [the term] biracial offensive. It's a way for people to separate themselves from African Americans, a way of saying, 'I'm better than that,'" She told Cane.

"That's not to say that I don't embrace my mother and everything that she's brought to my life, but it was my mother who let me know, 'The world is going [to] see you as Black and that is who you are. So don't have any questions about that."

Paula continued:

"I'm very grateful for her... The politics of race in our country are such that when [some]one wants to make it very clear that they're not Black, it's a way to keep them separate from Black people. We know, we've had a long history in this country of it not being popular to be Black, to be honest with you. I've always found that to be an offensive term. I'm Black and I embrace it, that's my family."

Paula reprises her role as entertainment attorney Daniella Hernandez in The BET+ series "Sacrifice," which is streaming now.
