Thanks to Chavon for sending these beautiful pictures of her daughter Taylor Dior. If you don’t recognize Taylor, she was the subject of yesterday’s Photo of the Day. Her photo touched off a healthy debate in the comments section.

Taylor’s daddy Jerrell was so upset by some of the comments that he fired off an angry email to me yesterday. Jerrell’s email said in part:

You would think that your site would promote something positive like, cute baby of the day or something like that. But no, you allow the tearing down of the very essence that holds together families for generations.

Once I read the comments, I thought they were very nice. Chavon even left a comment yesterday.

I’m glad that Chavon and Jerrell reached out to me because I didn’t know that little Taylor Dior is set to play the late great B.I.G‘s daughter Tianna in the the movie “Notorious” currently filming in NY.

sorry MZN…you are so wrong…all of the comments weren’t about how cute she was. Some suggested I need to find a new hobby, others said shame on me, others said she had a roll and set! and wondered why I would subject my daughter to that. Basically, I had to let it known that there were no chemicals or anything else grown or too adult put in my baby’s hair. I also didn’t submit her pic at all so I was shocked to see her on this site and see people commenting and assuming what was incorrect. The caption under my daughter’s photo was “I see nothing wrong with this baby’s wash and curl set. Mamas should teach their babies a sense of pride in their own hair while their young. At least she doesn’t have a head full of basket weave extensions.”

To me that was kind of joking at my daughter and was a snow ball effect for others to comment about her “wash and curl” and me teaching her to have “pride in her own hair while young”.

I never bashed the site or the people commenting. I just made sure to post my own comment letting everyone know the truth to their false assumptions…

So, NO, I don’t know “how parents are…”

I said from the very first post I placed on that subject what this little girl’s mother did to her hair. Like I said anybody who has a child knows that. I’m sorry that Taylor Dior’s parents were offended because of that post, because of people who like to ramble on about NOTHING! I simply stated the child had a good grade of hair and it sparked up an entirely different conversation. it’s just a picture. and the folks that left negative comments…that’s just how people are. Some folks like to debate and put holes in things. I’ve done it myself before without knowing the full story. You see something and then you assume from the very little you see. I think people just like to talk and be heard and most times that is normal. Hopefully no one is really hurt from this. Anyway the mom said that she was just playing with her daughter’s naturally soft hair after bath time. I figured that. Then it produced the Eddie Murphy Doo Wop hair do and it’s a cute little picture that was meant to be just that…CUTE! Not so serious…

The only thing I saw was cuteness. After bathing my kids I would put some baby oil in their hair and have the same hair do. Even for my son. It was all in fun. Noone would take their child out looking like that. It was a private family moment.

I read most of the posts….a lot of them started going off into other s*yt like, nappy heads, good hair, slavery….Like the Dad said “tearing down of the very essence that holds together families for generations”…..her parents have a right to be mad……

I think Sandra started it with the “wash & set” caption (probably inadvertent?)….when we hear “wash & set”, the first thing that comes to mind is “beauty shop”…and it took off from there….

Personally, I wish I had a little girl to play in her hair/take to the shop.

The negative comments derived from the fact that Sandra Rose said it was a wash and set. Anyone who doesn’t have children would probably mistaken that for a wash and set. I have a son with hair like that and I used to slick his hair back in the same fashion with some water and conditioner.

She is a blessed beautiful child and that is great that the mother is defending her child, but all of this back and forth is unnecessary. People are going to hate whether its about her hair or something else in the future. We need to teach our children to keep their heads up and let the negativity roll off our backs.

It was all about hair at some point, but a lot did have to say how adorable the baby was which I know was appreciated.When you put yourself out there to the blog or the internet world it could go either way and yes you would be mad, but people don’t think like others.Like I said in the other post she is adorable!!!

If the mother or father didn’t authorize the picture being put up on Sandra’s site and she didn’t like the comments being made about her daughter, then she should’ve requested that Sandra take it down. Anyone with a page anywhere on the internet whether its myspace or facebook or wherever, posts pics of themself. Being a ne mom, i also posted pics of my new baby for friends and family that I dont see everyday can see. My myspace page consisted of many friends and fam memebers as well as new moms and associates. Sharing pictures via the internet it normal whether you’re posting a pic of yourself, your child, your pet, or a special occasion. Just because you post pics doesnt mean you think anything/anyone is an accessory…we’re all obviously human…DUH!

I DID NOT send her pic into this website. Thats where the problem came along. Someone else who was my friend at the time (10 mths ago when she was 5 mths old and i took this pic) must have taken her pic and saved it to their computer and are now sending it in…

Also, ofcourse I had no problem sending Sandra recent photos of taylor. I love her photos. I want people to see that she is not what they were assuming. She HAD hair then and HAS hair now. She didnt have a perm then and doesnt have a perm now. She wasnt ghetto or grown then and isnt grown or ghetto now. I sent the pics to her so she has something positive for people to post about, not something negative.

If I was trying to hide her from the world I wouldnt have her pics on my myspace page at all…the problem for me wasnt that her pics are being seen. Its that people made false assumptions…so I cleared them up…thats all…

She’s a cutielicious. I read a little of the other post and the comments weren’t all good, but they weren’t horrible either. Maybe people who don’t have daughters don’t know that mommies love playing with their baby’s hair. My daughters didn’t have a head full of hair like Miss Taylor and I still tried to do cute little styles on them when they were babies.

She is precious and that is all that matters really.

Sandra I was a bit shocked to hear the mom say she was surprised to see her daughter’s pic on Sandra Rose. Why would you post a pic of a baby without the permission of the parent? And others can act like they don’t know, but you held the child up for ridicule by stating that the child had a wash and set. Why would you do that to a baby and her parents? I still say the hairdo was too grown, gel or no gel. Since the mother sees fit to put the pic on her public MySpace page, I wonder if she takes the baby out with that do.

i dont even know what the arguement is all about but i will say this although she is a cutie i really hate when people post pics of their babies all over the internet. that is so unsafe. why would you want to exploit a child like that? just to let the whole world know you have a cute baby?! my daughter is BEAUTIFUL and everyone tells me on a daily but i wouldnt post pics of her in cyberspace for perves to see. be it on myspace or whatever.

no i dont take her outside like that. and what if I did? At 5 mths she needs a hat on her head anyway. The pic was clearly a pic taken in the house and she wasnt dressed so she wasnt on her way anywhere.

that was a fun, at-home pic. my friends and fam know me well enough to know I’m not raising a ghetto child. So when I posted the pic of her on my page, they didnt think any harm was being done or she was being raised any type of wrong way. That isnt my child everyday…that is her when we’re at home playing around.

Also who said my page was “public”? YOU OBVIOUSLY DONT KNOW ME because my page is set to private and has been that way since 2005. only people i accept as a friend can see the contents…

the pages I posted in one of my comments on this site are pages I made for my daughter. One of them is public and is for agents and scouts to see. The pics, however, are private. My at-home for fun pics are ONLY on my private page…

I’m with Taylor’s mom. I try to keep one updated pic of my daughters on my page. Not in the picture section, but on the front page for family and friends because I no longer live in the town where I grew up. My dad reamed me out for having a ghetto myspace page, but people just feel differantly about things.

Lawd have mercy. If she got grown folks up in here arguing about her now. Just think of what it will be like when she’s a teen and starts talkin to boys. Jeesh! But anyways; honey, that is yo child and you can comb your baby’s hair however the heck you want to. Don’t get all worked up by these so called grown folks who obviously have no business of their own to tend to. Anybody with half a brain knows good and well you wasn’t gonna let your baby go out and about with that hairstyle and even if you were, that’s your business and not theirs. Like I said before, I used to play in my son’s hair all the time and put wigs on him and take pictures just for fun. People need to be more concerned about parents who abuse, sell, and molest their kids.

This is all I shall say. I was working and finally had time to read everything. This is 2008 and the internet is a crazy place to be. Chavon, you have a beautiful daughter and that’s all that should matter to you. You have ‘wasted’ 1 less day to spend with her defending your motives. There are a million ways you could have handled this. I see that you are 25 and that may play a part (not being mean but you do learn things as you get older-take what I say and sleep on it, you’ll realize it in 10 years). I haven’t seen this many posts on this site (impressive Sandra!). I for one, would have asked Sandra to remove the photo/post because the child is a minor. Two, I sure as hell wouldn’t have sent anymore. We see she is cute. Don’t add fuel to the fire. Three, let people say what they may. You are putting her in a movie and putting her bio on the WWW for PEOPLE TO SEE. She will be critizied and scrutinized far worse than anything that was said about the chemicals in her hair. Prepare yourself and your family for more to come. Thick skin for parents in the biz is critical. You won’t have the time to post on every site and news source that WILL comment about your child. I’m sorry that you took offense to things that were said but the ‘folks’ around here CAN be pretty brutal—just be glad you’re not mom to Usher/TI/Beyonce/Rhianna/Rocko—just know in your heart what you did and you won’t feel the need to entertain this. go hug your family and enjoy the evening.

and the pics are posted on other blogs as well. i agree helleva…even if she wasn’t in a movie etc…she is still going to be talked about. you can’t fight everybody’s opinion about your kid. i’ve said it twice her already she is a cutie, adorable and all…but, be careful mom you’ve exposed her to a industry that is mean spirited and brutal be prepared for the worst and prepare your daughter as well…you got to have thick skin…peace and good luck!
