Medical Minute: Boxer’s Fracture
Rapper Common and his bride-to-be, tennis superstar Serena Williams were spotted out & about shopping in NYC yesterday (3/6).
In this picture, Common appears to have what we in the medical field refer to as a “boxer’s fracture” of his left hand. Although the term boxer’s fracture is misnamed because boxers are trained to punch straight on to avoid these types of amateur injuries.
This injury occurs when a man throws an awkward roundhouse punch at a wall or door in a fit of rage — usually during a heated argument with his wife or girlfriend.
The punch is delivered hard enough to fracture the metacarpal bone of the pinky finger — and to leave a rather large hole in a door or wall.
Men who are raised by their moms (or aunties) to be respectful to women usually suffer this type of injury. That’s because they know that real men take out their frustrations on inanimate objects (like punching bags) rather than on a woman’s face.

I LOVE this site to the core…..but sometimes your take on things really confuse me! i applaud the thought of him being a real man and not hitting a woman in a moment of rage…..but how the HELL did that analysis come from him having a boxers fracture. maybe it couldve happened while boxing since hes not a professional! and this is my first hearing about his wife to be….they do make a nice couple however!

Common and Serena look good together. Never heard of them being engaged but I like the sound of it.
Maybe he hurt his finger smacking on that azz in sexual rendezvous because you know that bootie has to be muscular.

LOL, remember I said the term “boxer’s fracture” is misnamed? That’s because no boxer — amateur or professional — can break that bone punching someone’s face. The punch has to be delivered (and impact something) with sufficient force to break that long bone between the knuckle and the wrist. Such as punching a wall or a door. As an RN I’ve never seen that particular bone in the hand fractured by any other means.

It’s not his finger that’s broken, it’s the long bone between the knuckle and wrist called the metacarpal bone. You can’t break that bone on a woman’s junk unless her junk is made out of concrete or wood.
Why do men who were raised by women have to be the only ones who won’t hit a woman. As long as the parental figure raises that child up the way they are supposed to be raised, then they should be okay. I know plenty of good men raised by dads, uncles, brothers, 2 parent homes, single mom homes, etc, who would never lay their hands on a woman. Sandra you seem like a well traveled individual but your views are so one sided.

That’s why we dialog. If my opinions seem one-sided, then you share your opinions and we balance each other out. I used moms and aunties as examples. It doesn’t matter who raises the boy to respect women as long as someone does it.
