The big story in entertainment news today is teen actress Miley Cyrus has quit Twittering.

The Hannah Montana star quit Twitter today because her new boyfriend asked her to. Miley left a final tweet saying, “FYI Liam doesn’t have a twitter and he wants ME to delete mine with good reason,” then she deleted her account leaving her 2 million followers in a panic.

It seems the 16-year-old has discovered what a lot of other people already know: that Twitter is literally for the birds. As a wise woman recently pointed out: most celebrities have poor impulse control. They often end up posting a damaging tweet leaving their publicists to cover their asses by lying and claiming the Twitter account isn’t theirs.

There is no really good reason for established celebrities to have a twitter account other than to see how many “followers” they can gain. For that reason, Twitter is a narcissist’s playground. For the insecure celebs with low self esteem, it provides a forum to exercise their false superiority over others.

There’s really no surprise that the three biggest narcissists in the industry: Oprah Winfrey, Sean Combs and Ashton Kutcher, have millions of followers yet, only follow a few hundred back — if that many.

The other end of the spectrum are the non-celebrities who sit up on Twitter day and night hoping celebrities will respond to their tweets. Or the Twitter addicts who tweet randomly about every mundane aspect of their lives in the hopes that some other sad Twitter addict with no life will follow them.

I don’t tweet, I just joined facebook a week ago and only for the purpose of trying to get my book out. Can’t lie the first day I got it I was bored. People posting stupid things…. I’m on the bus, I ate this, I cooking… everytime I want to write. SO! Not to mention all the spaming. I don’t get any of it.

Now this… goodness I’m addicted to this board. & I don’t think its the same as twitting because I’m not following any celeb or learning things about them that I probably shouldn’t. I come from an era when celeb’s were untouchable. & they were what you made them to be in your head.

I was against Facebook until everyone kept saying they’ve hooked up with so many people they didn’t have contact with like highschool, college, and childhood friends, old cool co workers etc. and it’s the truth. I’ve found so many people that without Facebook I don’t think I would’ve. That’s why I love it.

I luv facebook. It lets me keep in touch with people who i wasn’t friends with…but we had some kind of relationsip, whether as acquaintances, had a class together, etc.

I have a rare and odd last time, and until facebook, i’d never heard of anyone with that name. And turns out…we may even be related. Myspace went ova board, with the ads, and the kids joining. FB recently started letting the kids join, but there are so many features where i can blog what people see and watnot, i luv it. Twitter just seems pointless.

Totally agree with you on this one. Thought I was the only one that wasn’t all that interested in reconnecting with every single person I’ve ever meet in life. You measure you success by how you’ve moved on and tackled goals away from the people that you knew when you were 13, or in high school. If you’re constantly talking to all those past people, then how do you live in the what’s happening now in the new places that you come across? It just seems so boring to me. People are constantly texting the old contacts in their life when they are out with the new people in their life. Which makes the new people unable to connect with you. So you stay stuck in the past.

I guess I look at this in a different way because reconnecting with old friends to see what they’ve been up to doesn’t take away from what I’m doing with the current friends in my life and doesn’t keep me in the past at all. I guess it’s all in the person you are. it took me a looong time to get on FB. and it is a mixed blessing.

i have found and even started hanging out with some folks i had lost contact with. not cause i wanted to…but b/c life is like that. school, work, babies, families all happened.

we have a 15 year reunion next weekend (that KILLS me to type that…lmfao) and our class president even said HE is grateful to FB cause he was able to find almost everyone to spread the word. he said with FB organizing was alot easier than the 10 year reunion was…

there are also folks i keep in touch with from jobs past which is also nice…

I am so laughing that ppl in the pj’s take and post pics with all thier shine and glory. I ain’t mad at them. too many generations of ppl that live in pj’s and don’t raise their kids to become better. I can’t imagine living in the pj’s and my 17 yr old getting pregnant(again) and my only option is excitement that I can emancipate her to get her own apt. for her and her babies because she was going to get cut off my welfare funds in a few months. Nothing wrong with catching up with old friends or wanting to catch up with old friends. We go thru life, and some of us may fall out of contact with people….it happens. I don’t feel the urge to hang out with anyone on facebook. Besides the people on there that i do have a close friendship with, i know some of it won’t get pass facebook. I think i’ve gotten to know the people who i just kind of said hello to in the hallway on my way to class. I know that wouldn’t of happen if it weren’t for fb.

Blocking…that depends…cuz you can block a person all together…or you can block what they see ie. ur pics, what you write on other people’s wall, what ur friends write on ur walls…but i think if u block someone all together…they can’t access your profile or anything close to it….if u haven’t accpted there request..t.hen they can’t get on ur upage any ways

As for FB, I never completed my registration. I wanted one childhood friend to get back in contact with and I paid $54 to join “clasmates.com”. I found her and reconnected and it was worth the money. My dumb butt renewd my subscription and I don’t know why. My childhood friends are still my BFF’s along with my sisters.
FYI, it’s easier to go to “Yellow Book or Yellow Pages.com to find someone o just go to the site of the school you went to or they went to and you can find them if you want. It’s free.

Not having to wear shoes bought at a grocrey store. We were poorer than “The Waltons or Little House On The Prarie”. Being poor does build a person “up” I make ok money at work, my unfortunate upbringing made me remember “how to be poor” in these economic times. I was listening to a preacher the other day and he was saying how hip hop is killing off folks. I feel you on the presidnet thing. I really have faith in Obama BUT i also believe he is a puppet. (He might not even know it). People dont realize all Obama is is a voice for the people behind the scences. ( The white man most likely). I do beileve we are moving closer and closer to that new world order.
