RIP: Dr. Malinda Sapp, wife of Gospel singer Marvin Sapp

Yesterday, the social networking site Twitter.com was abuzz with word of the passing of former NFL great Warren Sapp’s wife. But in reality, it was the wife of Gospel star Marvin Sapp who had died. (Warren and Marvin are not related.)

According to online reports, Dr. MaLinda Sapp died Thursday after a prolonged battle with colon cancer. She was 43.

According to a message on her husband’s website, MaLinda’s cancer went into remission earlier this year and she given a clean bill of health.

But by August the aggressive cancer had returned and quickly spread to her other internal organs.

Marvin Sapp is best known for his Grammy-nominated single “Never Would Have Made It.” His single “The Best in Me” was a no. 1 hit on the Gospel charts.

According to the AP, MaLinda Sapp was a “limited license” psychologist who taught at Grand Rapids Community College.

She also held a Doctorate of Divinity and was a professional counselor and administrative pastor at her husband’s Lighthouse Full Life Center Church in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The former MaLinda Prince and Sapp were childhood sweethearts who knew each other since grade school. The couple wed in 1992 but MaLinda described their first year of marriage as “devastating.”

“It was like the crash of the fairy tale,” she says. “I had the ideal marriage in my head — he’d come home from work at 5, we’d kiss, we’d have dinner, there’d be a dog. That didn’t occur.” Instead, there were lots of long-distance phone calls.

“I had to wrap my head around what our marriage was — not what I thought a marriage should be,” she says. “We really struggled that first year.” [link]

Sapp eventually asked his wife to be his manager so they would never be apart.

“She said, ‘I want nothing to do with the music business,’ “ he recalls. “I said, ‘I don’t want anybody else. I trust you. I love you.’”

MaLinda Sapp is survived by her husband and their three children, Marvin Jr., 14, Mikaila, 11, and Madisson, 9.

Since when does the Muslim world need a reason to kill our troops?

This morning we awoke to the news that the planned Koran barbecue by a deranged Florida pastor might still be on as scheduled for tomorrow.

A lunatic and 50 of his followers threaten to light a match to an Islamic religious relic and the world explodes with heated passion and outrage.

What’s going on here?

Don’t the Muslim extremists (which includes women and children) burn our American flag every chance they get? Don’t they desecrate our churches and murder our missionaries at the drop of a dime? Do they need a reason to commit atrocities against the US in the name of their religion?

Why would the US president lower the dignity of the highest office in the land by personally appealing to an egotistical crackpot on national TV?

Obama claimed that the lives of the American troops in Afghanistan would be endangered if Pastor Terry Jones burned a Koran.

Since when does the Muslim world need a reason to kill our troops?

As noted professor PZ Myers said so eloquently, “I am simply astounded at the catalog of high-ranking personages who are contributing to this new frenzy of foolishness.”

“Mr. Obama is wrong,” writes Jeffrey T. Kuhner of The Washington Times. “There was nothing un-American about Mr. Jones’ plans. Burning sacred symbols – whether it is the flag, the Constitution or the Koran – is as American as mom and apple pie.”

Pastor Jones was thrust to the forefront of our national consciousness by a ratings-driven media bolstered by a poll that shows 25% of Americans believe Barack Obama is a Muslim.

Expect to see more Obama/Muslim baiting from the media in the near future.

Florida Pastor calls off Qur’an burning; Baptist Church Plans to Burn Qur’ans

After meeting with FBI agents, a Florida Pastor has agreed to call off the Qur’an burning he had planned for this Saturday, to commemorate the anniversary of Sept. 11.

Pastor Terry Jones said he called off the Qur’an bonfire after speaking with the Imam of a planned NY mosque near ground zero who agreed to move the mosque to another location in Manhattan.

But according to Reuters news services, the Imam denies speaking with Jones and has no plans to move the mosque.

Meanwhile, a Baptist church in Topeka, Kansas now says it will burn Qur’ans on Saturday if Pastor Jones’ Gainesville church cancels its Qur’an burning.

According to online reports, the small Westboro Baptist church in Topeka, Kansas has burned a Qur’an once before.

“WBC burned the Koran once – and if you sissy brats of Doomed America bully Terry Jones and the Dove World Outreach Center… change their plans to burn that blasphemous tripe called the Koran, then WBC will burn it (again), to clearly show you some things,” the church announced in a news release this week.

In an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America this morning, U.S. president Barack Obama urged Pastor Jones to call off the Qur’an burning, saying the action would result in a recruiting bonanza for al-Qaeda.

“I just want him to understand that this stunt that he is talking about pulling could greatly endanger our young men and women in uniform who are in Iraq, who are in Afghanistan,”

He later sent greetings to Muslims all over the world celebrating the end of Ramadan today.

Obama’s greetings to the Muslim world prompted Jews to question if Obama would also recognize Rosh Hashanah, the celebration of the Jewish New Year which began yesterday and ends at nightfall on September 10.

So far, there’s been no mention of Rosh Hashanah by Obama — who 25% of Americans polled believe is Muslim — or the White House.

But talk show Diva Wendy Williams sent New Year greetings to the Jews on her Twitter page today.

Does Serena Williams have a serious problem with men?

Tennis superstar Serena Williams is pining for a love match with rapper Drake — this according to the NY Post’s gossip section, Page Six.

Sources tell Page Six that Serena has asked her agents to arrange an introduction to Drake, who at 23 is five years younger than she is.

“They’re hoping to fix up a meeting with Serena when he plays Radio City later this month,” said the source.

Question: why would a grown woman need her agents to “fix up a meeting” with Drake? It’s obvious that Serena Williams has serious issues with men. And it doesn’t help matters any that Serena only dates male celebrities, which narrows the field down tremendously.

Still, this news is a little hard to believe. Maybe Serena has already put the move on Drake and he spurned her advances? So in desperation, Serena, who broke up with rapper Common back in May, instructed her people to contact Page six to put the word out there publicly that she’s interested in Drake.

Clearly, Serena has ongoing relationship issues since she can’t seem to keep a man. Is she just another Halle Berry whose severe personality drawbacks keeps creeping into her relationships with men?

Serena should consider taking a year off from dating to speak with someone who is paid to listen. Therapy would help her to understand why she constantly sabotages herself in her pursuit of love.

Women today are just too aggressive for their own good.

I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: men don’t want a woman who is their equal. If that’s the case they can date other men. Wait… they already do.
