Disgraced New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Pastor Bishop Eddie Long has one thing in common with the late Michael Jackson: he paid serious bucks to make his sexual indiscretions go away quietly.
According to online reports, Long settled out of court with his 4 male accusers, who were teenagers of legal age when he plied them with cash and gifts in exchange for sex. Maurice Robinson, 21, Anthony Flagg, 22, Jamal Parris and another man, claimed the Bishop "coerced" and "enticed" them with exotic trips, clothing and cars. In one case, he paid the young man's college tuition.
Barbara Marschalk, who represents New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and LongFellows Youth Academy, said she anticipates " the lawsuits will be dismissed, with prejudice, by close of business tomorrow."
Long was a fierce opponent of gay marriage and often preached anti-gay sermons from the pulpit. All the while a fire burned inside him that only the touch of young boys could extinguish.
Long vigorously denied the allegations when the news broke last September. Throughout the ordeal the Bishop's long suffering wife and their four grown children stood beside him. Their support never wavered.
V-103 Morning Show co-host Frank Ski, a longtime member of New Birth, called an Atlanta blogger to show his support for his pastor, and to dispute allegations that his show was biased.
There are unconfirmed rumors that Long paid each man $1.5 million and an apology behind closed doors. But according to media personality Star Jones, who was in Atlanta yesterday, the terms of the settlement have not been made public.
Troix magazine features 'Jumping The Broom' star and Cougar magnet Romeo Miller on its April 2011 cover. You Cougars who have been in a drought lately will be soaking wet after you view these pics of fully grown Lil Romeo!
Several readers emailed me this morning wondering if Kim Kardashian's 20.5 carat, $2M engagement rock is the same one that she purchased for herself in 2009 after her then-boyfriend Reggie Bush refused her desperate pleas to marry her.
Kim has pressured every man she's ever met to marry her. So I wouldn't put it past her to take lighten the load on Humphries' wallet by trotting out the ring she already bought for herself years ago.
What do you think? Are they the same rock?
Loyal reader Vonice C. thinks they are one and the same:
Hey I noticed yesterday on your site you posted about Kim's ring. You also included link that showed how she purchased her own ring when she was with Reggie Bush. I noticed in today's post with an up close pic of her ring..that ring on her is same one ring from 2 years ago.. Check it out you will see.
Rapper Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, left, and singer Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas of TLC performed onstage during Fox's "American Idol 2011" finale show held at Nokia Theatre LA Live in Los Angeles yesterday. T-Boz's thick appearance prompted a slew of pregnancy rumors on social networking sites Twitter and Facebook last night. T-Boz, 41, suffers from Sickle Cell Anemia and has been in and out of hospitals. In 2009, T-Boz talked about her battle with a brain tumor. T-Boz has a 10-year-old daughter, Chase Anela Rolison, who was fathered by rapper Mack 10.
According to Rod 2.0 (via Andre Allen), former CLiK model Maurice Murrell passed away Tuesday night of undisclosed causes.
Maurice was one of the first cover models of the re-launched CLIK in January 2006. That cover launched a career in modeling and film. The New Jersey- and New York City-based model appeared in numerous magazines, calendars, two coffee table books and the cover of Lee Hayes' Flesh to Flesh anthology. Mo also appeared in the film Finding Me and its new sequel Finding Me: Truth. Besides the CLIK cover, Maurice Murrell will be emembered by a generation of young gay men for his role in the film Finding Me and its new sequel Finding Me: Truth directed by Roger S. Omeus.
R.I.P. to that young man. And, don't forget to wrap it up kids.
There were few dry eyes in the house (or at home) when Oprah Winfrey bid farewell to millions of viewers during her final show, which aired yesterday. There were no stars jockeying for position next to her onstage. Just Oprah alone in front of a select audience with her thoughts and memories of the last 25 years of the most influential daytime TV talk show in history.
"The Oprah Winfrey Show" ended its storied run on May 25, after 25 years, and millions of her fans gathered in homes and lounges around America to watch the final show.
Oprah acknowledged that she owes much of the success of her show to her loyal viewers who kept her at the top of the ratings heap consistently.
"You and this show have been the great love of my life," she told the lucky audience near the end of the episode.
Later, she talked about the transformation the show took from featuring "people making bad choices" to the lifestyle and star-studded format it became.
Oprah talked about one of her biggest regrets -- taking her production staff to Forsyth County, Georgia to "confront racism", when in fact she was confronting her own insecurities in her bid to attract worldwide attention. The response to that show was immediate and devastating as blacks abandoned Oprah in droves.
"What is all life? What is every flower, every rock, every tree, every human being? Energy. And you're responsible for the energy you create for yourself, and you're responsible for the energy that you bring to others," she said.
Towards the end of the hour, Oprah says ending her legendary talk show is "all sweet, no bitter" and that she nothing but gratitude for the time she spent with us.
"I thank you for being as much of a sweet inspiration for me as I've tried to be for you," she said. "I won't say goodbye. I'll just say, Until we meet again. To God be the glory."
Remember I told you yesterday that Kim Kardashian's wedding would be a splashy spectacle? I was right. According to PopEater.com, Kim wants her wedding to be the biggest ever -- even bigger than Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding earlier this month.
"Kim's wedding is going to be bigger than Tom and Katie," a friend of Kim's tells Popeater.com's Rob Shuter. "In fact, she wants it to be bigger than William and Kate's."
Shuter adds: "On that grandiose note, a source also told OK! Magazine that Kim "sees herself as a bigger celebrity than Kate Middleton."
"Kris Humphries might not have known what he was getting into. This wedding is going to happen very much in the public eye. And they will make millions off of it," writes Shuter.
Kim and her fiance Kris Humphries have only been dating since December 2010, which means it only took Kim 5 months to convince Kris to put a ring on it. And what an ostentatious ring it is!
The 20.5 carat sparkler carries a price tag of $2 million! A typical female narcissist begins harassing her victim to marry her usually after only 2-4 weeks of dating. Healthy men immediately bolt for the door. But a weak minded man stays because he thinks he's in love with the most beautiful woman on earth. No sane man would marry a woman he just met, so this should be a major red flag.
My prediction is it will take Kris a year to 2 years to figure out what he's gotten himself into. In the meantime, he will suffer greatly at the hands of Kim.
FiFi Award Winner Halle Berry, 44, had to stand on her tippy toes to chat with singer Trey Songz, 26, during the 2011 FiFi Fragrance Awards, held in the Tent at Lincoln Center in New York City yesterday. The FiFi award is given to celebs with the best fragrances in the market.
I met Trey face to face and I don't remember him being particularly tall. So Halle must be very short. R&B singer Mary J Blige, 40, also received a FiFi award for her fragrance, My Life.
Socialite Amber Rose shares the split covers of the June/July issue of VIBE magazine with rapper Rick Ross. Inside, she reluctantly acknowledges that her fleeting fame is due to the fact that her former sponsor, Kanye West, saved her and transported her from the seedy strip clubs to the red carpets of the world.
Still, she seems bothered (and a bit ungrateful) that all people ever want to talk about is what Yeezy taught her.
“What am I supposed to do? Crawl up in a corner and die ‘cause I’m not with Kanye anymore? Am I supposed to go back to the strip club and not take these opportunities that I have?”
“Kanye would always tell be how beautiful I was and that I was going to be iconic. He always said that, ‘Baby, you are iconic. You don’t understand what you have. I didn’t. I didn’t understand it.”
According to Miss Info, Beyonce's new single "1+1" was just released moments ago. The hard core Bey fans are raving about this beautiful pop ballad. It's standard Beyonce fare; she's forcefully singing over accompanying piano and guitar chords.
"Hey, I don't know much about guns, but I-I've been shot by YOU/ Hey, and I don't know when I'm gone die, but I hope that I'm gone die by YOU!, she sings.
"1+1" is the opening track off Beyonce's much-anticipated '4' album, which you can pre-order here. The album is in stores June 28, 2011. She performed the song on tonight’s season final of 'American Idol' which was won by country singer Scotty McCreery.
Sephora was the scene of the launch of the Carol's Daughter Spokesbeauty Monoi repairing collection on 34th street in NYC yesterday. Celebs such as Mary J Blige, Solange Knowles, Selita Ebanks and Puffy's concubine, Cassie Ventura, graced the red carpet as flash bulbs popped. Carol's Daughter's founder and CEO Lisa Price and Steve Stoute sparked controversy when they selected Solange, Selita and Cassie to be the spokesmodels for their hair care line.
Yesterday pictures appeared online of rap mogul Lil Wayne spending quality time on South Beach in Miami with his unidentified Latin cutie. Earlier this week, the two lovebirds sat courtside during game 4 of the eastern conference finals between the Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls (game 5 is tonight in Chicago). The chick appears to be completely enamored with Weezy in these pics. Someone emailed me yesterday claiming to have attended high school with the girl. So at least we know she's American. Lil Wayne's artist, Young Money rapper Drake, also sat courtside with the couple.
Weezy chose his courtside attire as carefully as he chooses his baby mamas. According to UpscaleHype, he wore a Mitchell & Ness LA Lakers hat, a Billionaire Boys Club classic Curve logo tee, Desert Digi Camo cargo shorts, checkered socks, and a pair of Nike Dunk Mid Premium SB “3 Bears Edition” sneakers.
Don't you love it when two manly men can declare their love and appreciation of each other's talents without fear of sparking teh ghey rumors?
Unlike his boss Lil’ Wayne, who complained bitterly about LeBron totally ignoring him, Drake publicly confesses his deep affection and devotion for all things LeBron. And LeBron feels likewise about Drake.
According to SLAM, Drake often sends LeBron encouraging text messages before and after NBA games. Yahoo Sports reports on one particular touching text sent by Drake to LeBron before the all-important game 4 of the eastern conference finals where the Miami Heat routed the Chicago Bulls. "Tonight is your night," Drake texted to LeBron from his courtside seat. "I always let him know that it’s his night," Drake tells Yahoo. "Let’s get it, let’s go out there with a clear mind and forget all the other stuff going on and just stay focused on the task. That ring. Tonight, I told him it was his night. And it was his night tonight."
James [also] saw something special in Drake and his music, and became a big fan, long before Drake’s debut studio album ‘Thank Me Later’ went platinum last year. The Heat star said the two now have grown to share a familial bond. ‘What we have is real family,’ James said. ‘It’s not just because we are successful at what we do. We really care about one another on a day-to-day basis. Anytime you get a friend that can come and support you in what you do, I really respect that. He has a busy schedule. I respect that. Anytime I get some free time, I try to support him as well.’” Source
Sexy song siren Ciara showed off her new lacefront wig with blond highlights as she left her New York City hotel this morning. The 26-year old singer's hunky bodyguard cleared a path through the paparazzi congregating outside her hotel. Isn't it cute that they're both rocking the same work boots?

Actress Hilary Duff, 23, holds up a couple of melons at a Sobe life water event in NYC today. It was rumored that Hillary was dropped from the cast of the new flick 'Bonnie & Clyde', but that rumor turned out to be false.
Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, 26, was spotted hanging out with his adorable 10 month old son, Cristiano Ronaldo, Jr., and his girlfriend Irina Shayk on holiday in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal yesterday. Holding Ronaldo's son is Hugo Aveiro, Ronaldo's brother.
Shockingly, after these pics were taken, Ronaldo climbed into a waiting limo with his baby sitting unsecured on the seat between him and Irina. I guess the laws requiring baby seats in moving vehicles are nonexistent outside of the US?
Remember what I told you about female narcissists and how they start putting subtle putting pressure on their victims to marry them as early as two weeks after they meet? The whirlwind courtship usually ends with the female narcissist suggesting that he marry her or lose her forever to another man.
That's what happened to poor Reggie Bush, who stuck around as long as he could because he thought he was in love with reality TV star and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian. Kim even purchased her own 7-carat engagement ring in 2009 when Bush took too long to get with the program.
Most healthy men realize what's happening immediately and bolt for the door early. But weak minded men always get entangled in the web.
Kardashian finally got one of her victims to fall for her charms. According to People magazine online, New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries, popped the question to Kim while on bended knee in the bedroom of her Beverly Hills mansion.
Humphries presented Kim with a custom-designed, 20.5-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond sparkler. "I just knew I wanted it to be big," says Humphries, 26, who, with the help of Kardashian's mom Kris Jenner, planned an intimate family celebration later that evening.
"Kris really didn't want a big celebration, but he had jokingly told my mom he'd be fine if there were mini-horses there," says Kardashian with a laugh. "Later that night at the party, my mom brought out two mini-horses, covered in glitter, for us! It was hysterical!"
"Dancing with the Stars" winners Hines Ward and Kym Johnson danced on ABC's "Good Morning America" in Times Square this morning. The former NFL player and his partner beat out Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy in the 'DWTS' final yesterday. Congrats to them!
Reality TV star and media personality La La Anthony was spotted while filming scenes from her reality show in Beverly Hills yesterday. That weight loss looks good on her!
Remember when everyone thought Senator John McCain was getting senile during the 2008 presidential race? Statements such as "John McCain isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer" resulted in millions of nervous Americans casting their votes for his opponent, Senator Barack Obama.
But shortly after Obama's historic landslide election in 2008, clues began to emerge that he wasn't the brightest bulb in the pack either.
For instance, while giving a speech in London, England in 2009, Mr. Obama forgot where he met his wife, Michelle Obama.
Coincidentally, the most recent sign of a disturbing lapse in Mr. Obama's memory occurred in London again. This time, Mr. Obama forgot what year it was when he signed a guestbook in the nave of Westminster Abbey yesterday.
According to London's Daily Mail: instead of signing '2011' after his name in the guestbook, Obama wrote '24 May 2008' (it is customary for the British to write the day first followed by the month and year). He got the date wrong by three years when he signed the guestbook - despite apparently asking the dean what day it was.
"DOESN'T OBAMA KNOW WHAT YEAR IT IS?" shouts the embarrassing headlines in the London papers today.
In the first stage of Alzheimer's, a disease that destroys brain cells, there is no visible impairment. In stage 2, the individual begins to experience memory lapses, forgetting familiar words or locations. In stage 3, there is a noticeable cognitive decline and the person has trouble remembering names and dates. The symptoms develop slowly and get worse over time.
It is believed that former president Ronald Reagan suffered from Alzheimer's while he was still in office.

Beyoncé is facing a storm of criticism following her performance of "Run The World (Girls)" at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. The singer who has based her career on stealing and copying other people's work has come under fire for ripping off the work of Italian pop star Lorella Cuccarini.
Bey's performance involved standing in front of a huge white screen while interacting with giant images projected onto it. But her act was strikingly similar to Cuccarini's performance last year during which she incorporated the same images and gestures in front of a huge white screen.
Bey's unspectacular performance caused online social network Twitter.com to explode with tweets raving about her "revolutionary" show. Some Twitter users tweeted they had never seen anything like it before.
But many viewers watching at home were not impressed with Beyoncé's act -- they had seen it all before.
That's because the same production company that designed the graphics for Cuccarini also designed Beyoncé's show. Unfortunately, they didn't bother to come up with any new concepts for Bey.
Media artist and film director Kenzo Digital designed the graphics for the performance and admitted Beyoncé and co. were inspired by Cuccarini, but charges the concept has been around since the '80s. "[The Cuccarini artists] are awesome and do incredible work as well, but there are a lot of different inspirations for where our piece came from," Kenzo explained to The Amp. Source
After Beyoncé's Billboard Awards performance my Inbox was flooded with emails accusing Bey of being a talentless copycat. One reader named Shalon wrote: "You be sooo right about Beyoncé. And I swear people think she is the best thing sense slice bread. I must admit you know your stuff!"
Celebrities in the audience were quick to congratulate Beyoncé on Twitter. "BEYONCE go awwf! Wow!!! All I can say! BEYONCE a True Entertainer!! U Deserve the Success! Such a Hard Worker!"
And singer Rihanna, who will host the grand opening party for the new Vision nightclub in Atlanta next month, tweeted: "Congrats to Beyonce on a #MAJAH award and tribute."
It's sad how the black community continues to be preoccupied with celebrating mediocrity. We have to do better!
This brief video of a cute German Shepherd puppy growing to full adult in 40 seconds has gone viral on YouTube. The video shows a series of photographs of Dunder the dog going from 8 weeks to a full wear wearing a variety of outfits, surrounded by his toys. When he turns one, his owner his owner puts a birthday hat on his head.
Clinical depression occurs when an individual is unable to cope with their feelings of overwhelming sadness, hopelessness and despair. They often rely on suicidal ideations as a crutch to help them cope with depression. Once they make the decision to commit suicide, they will give the outward appearance of being happy and at peace. By that time it is too late to save them.
There are some in the black community who don't believe that depression is a serious mental illness. According to Mental Health America, African Americans are particularly at risk for clinical depression, but we are the least likely to seek therapy due to the stigma and myths surrounding the disease.
If your child mentions that he or she is depressed -- even once -- this is a bad sign. They probably summoned all the courage they had in them to approach you. It may be the only time they will come to you with their problem before attempting suicide.
Your response is crucial. Do not dismiss your child with bad advice such as "Get over it" or "We all get the blues, it'll pass." It won't pass.
Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. For that reason, depression sufferers can't just "get over it" without intervention such as medication (anti-depressants) and therapy.
As black people, we must reject the belief that depression is a sign of weakness, or the lack of Jesus in our lives.
If you are unable to support your child emotionally due to your unfounded beliefs about clinical depression, please call a friend, or a crisis intervention group to support and provide the mental health resources that he needs.
There should be more of an emphasis on clinical depression today due to the high profile cases of gay teen suicides in the news. But sadly there isn't.
It's a shame that the national media continues to provide a disservice to their audience by claiming gay teens kill themselves because they were bullied or outed. In reality, gay teens kill themselves because they suffer from undiagnosed depression.
Whether you love or hate Lady Gaga, you can't deny her influence in today's popular culture. She is the reigning #1 pop star in the world at least until Ciara scores that #1 hit song that's been eluding her since, like, forever. Gaga displayed her goodies in New York City last night as she got into her limo outside her hotel. Earlier in the day she appeared on the 'Dave Letterman Show'. Fans seeking to download Gaga's current album, Born This Way, for just .99 cents overwhelmed Amazon's robust servers on Monday. The lucky thousands who were able to download the mp3 could also register for 20 gigs of free cloud storage that came with the album.
Gorgeous singer Ciara has a new man (Amar'e Stoudemire), a new look and a new attitude. Now all she needs is a hit record to put her back on top. Ciara attended a screening of the film "The Hangover Part II" at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in NYC last night.
Teen heartthrob Justin Bieber, 17, and Selena Gomez, 18, officially went public when they shared a kiss at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. The cute couple then jetted to Maui where they were spotted holding hands in the Maui Airport. The celebrity couple were all smiles as they made their way to a waiting car to begin their Hawaiian adventure together. Later they were spotted on a beach after changing clothes. Justin is in the midst of his world tour where he performed in Japan despite half of his dancers refusing to go due to fears of radiation exposure.
Sara Stewart of the NY Post has an excellent brief summary of Oprah Winfrey's past 25 years as one of the most influential TV talk show moguls in history.
There is no doubt that the so-called "Oprah Effect" has shaped the consciousness of many and influenced popular culture. But as Stewart points out, "occasionally, that influence has backfired."
The “Oprah effect” has shaped our national consciousness in profound ways. “There are a lot of people whose lives are better, thanks to what she’s done,” says Robert Thompson, founding director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University. “Her whole message of empowerment is the idea that you can change your circumstances.”
Occasionally, however, that influence has seriously misfired.
“Oprah has mainstreamed a lot of very questionable characters in my opinion,” anti-cult therapist Steven Hassan has said, pointing to Oprah acolyte James Arthur Ray whose infamous sweat lodge led to the deaths of three people in 2009. The megalithic TV host and producer has also arguably helped to foster an unprecedented level of national narcisissm, and a mass susceptibility to snake-oil salesmen disguised as self-improvement gurus. She’s given a national platform to controversial topics, such as the “link” between childhood vaccines and autism, which have had ramifications far beyond the Nielsen ratings.
As Stewart notes: "No single American personality in recent years has influenced our culture as pervasively as Oprah Winfrey.
But Oprah's celebration of mediocrity, her lack of true insight into her own failings, and her inability to see past the tip of her grandiose nose will forever mark her as one of the biggest narcissists in the history of television.
The singer formerly known as Keyshia Cole married her longtime boyfriend, NBA star Daniel "Boobie" Gibson, in an intimate ceremony in Cleveland on Saturday, May 21. Boobie tweeted these wedding pics on his Twitter page tonight. Boobie, 25, and Keyshia, 29, have a son, Daniel, Jr, 14 months.
Some of you are too young to remember the 80s fashion craze sparked by students wearing pajama bottoms to school. It looks like DWTS' Romeo Miller is trying to bring ready-to-wear pajamas back. The 21-year-old rapper-turned-actor was seen dressed in a crazy colorful Emo pajama bottom as he hugged his dance partner Chelsie Hightower after they finished rehearsing for the DWTS finale on Saturday. Romeo is definitely down with swirl. Earlier this week he was reportedly lip-locking with 60-year-old Kirstie Alley. The "My Baby" rapper, who currently stars in 'Jumping The Broom', is the son of former rapper and Hip Hop mogul Master P.
A Christian doctor in England is under investigation by the British medical professional body for telling a patient that he needed Jesus.
Richard Scott, a doctor for 28 years, was informed by the General Medical Council (GMC) that an investigation was underway after a young man's mother lodged a complaint.
Dr. Scott, who practices at a medical center in Margate, east of London, said he had a lengthy discussion about treatment and follow up care with the unidentified 24-year-old male patient, who likely suffered from depression.
But when the man's mother asked what the doctor told him, he replied: "He just said I need Jesus."
This prompted the mother to report Dr. Scott to the GMC for medical misconduct.
Dr. Scott insists he acted professionally: "I only discussed my faith at the end of a lengthy medical consultation after exploring the various interventions that the patient had previously tried," he said.
"I only discussed mutual faith after obtaining the patient's permission. In our conversation, I said that, personally, I had found having faith in Jesus helped me and could help the patient. At no time did the patient indicate that they were offended, or that they wanted to stop the discussion. If that had been the case, I would have immediately ended the conversation. Source
The young man practices a different faith than Christianity, but his faith had lapsed recently. He continues to seek treatment at the center despite the complaint lodged against the doctor by his mother.
The Fashion Critic gave Beyonce the Most Uninspiring Award for wearing this black number from Lanvin's Fall 2011 Collection. She gussied up the unflattering dress with gold Christian Louboutin heels and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.
Rihanna, who usually dresses provocatively for awards shows, toned it down last night by opting for the understated elegance of a men's tailored Max Azria white suit with nude colored Louboutin’s. Her white, buttonless silk blouse was open down to her navel where she "showcased a gold fringe Solange Azagury-Partridge tassle necklace." She got my Best Dressed Award for the night.
According to fashion blog Upscale hype, rapper Nicki Minaj attended the 2011 Billboard Music Awards wearing a piece from the Mark Fast Spring 2011 Ready to Wear Collection and a Gareth Pugh outfit for her uninspiring performance of "Super Bass".
