Cincinnati Bengals running back Cedric Benson was arrested last weekend and charged with the misdemeanor assault on his former roommate. The roommate, Clavens ‘Miami’ Charles, accused Benson of roughing him up on an Austin, Texas, street corner at 5 a.m. Sunday.

According to police, Benson approached Charles on the corner, and after a brief argument, Benson began throwing round house punches and pummeling Charles about the face and neck.

The police report mentioned that the fight started after Benson told Charles they “needed to talk about their problems.”

Thomas Crosley, Charles’ attorney, released a statement to CBSSports.com and other media. The statement said Benson’s attorneys contacted them about a settlement — presumably to preserve what is left of Benson’s reputation as a manly man.

After Charles’ attorney released the statement to the media, Benson’s attorneys leveled accusations of extortion against Charles.

Benson’s lawyer, Sam Bassett, released a statement Sunday stating that “The two had difficulties resulting from Mr. Benson asking the former male roommate to leave his home a few days prior to this incident.”

Please note: Any talk of Benson’s sexual orientation is pure speculation (since he hasn’t officially come out of the closet yet), so please don’t quote Sandrarose.com when you repeat any of this.
