State Attorney Angela Corey, the Hispanic special prosecutor in the Trayvon Martin case, will make an announcement about the case “within 72 hours”.

Martin, 17, was gunned down by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, 28, in Sanford, Florida, on Feb. 26. Corey’s announcement came just hours after Zimmerman’s attorneys held a news conference Tuesday to announce they were dropping Zimmerman as a client because he was noncompliant and they had lost contact with him.

Corey, who is based in Jacksonville, Florida, was brought into the case on Mar. 22 when Sanford’s state attorney recused himself. She has a history of charging and convicting more black men and juveniles than any other state attorney in Florida.

Corey has been roundly criticized for dragging her feet in the investigation from the start. Zimmerman’s attorneys dropped a bombshell during their press conference, saying Zimmerman reached out to the special prosecutor’s office — against legal advice — and he may have even spoken to Corey herself.

Corey has gone on record in the past, stating she would interview Zimmerman as part of her ongoing investigation.

But on Tuesday, Corey reportedly told Zimmerman she would not interview him because he already had legal counsel. Zimmerman reportedly told her that his attorneys were his “legal advisers” — not his lawyers. This indicates that –if arrested — Zimmerman will represent himself in court.

Zimmerman’s behavior is consistent with a man who has an entitlement mentality, and who takes the law into his own hands.

Zimmerman’s former attorneys say he is no longer in the state of Florida, and in fact they don’t know where he is.

Meanwhile, TV personality Tanya Young Williams (who some of you may know from Basketball Wives LA), was a guest on HLN’s Jane Velez show Tuesday. She revealed that an FBI agent told her they know where Zimmerman is.

If Corey takes out a warrant for his arrest on Friday, it is likely that the FBI will have to bring him in.
