Barack and Michelle Obama hug

Flushed with excitement from winning his 2nd term as president, Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama sat down for an intimate interview with ABC’s Barbara Walters, which aired last night on “Nightline.”

The Obamas broke out in a fit of giggles when Walters asked them, “How do you keep the fire going?”

After sharing laughter with her husband, the first lady paused for a few seconds to ruminate before responding, “That’s a good question.”

I agree that it was a good question. It’s interesting that Mrs. Obama had to think hard before answering it.

“We’ve been married now 20 years, and like every marriage, I think you have your ups and your downs,” the president answered. “But if you’ve worked through the tough times, the respect and love that you feel deepens.”

It’s worth noting here that the president racked up a total of 21 hours playing golf, and only four (4) hours of family time during their 5-day vacation in Hawaii over the Christmas holidays. So if there is any ‘fire’ left in their relationship, it is drawn mainly from outside sources.
