The National Institute of Health has allotted $1.5 million to study why lesbians tend to be overweight. Yes, I know, the money could have gone to feed and house the homeless, but this study must be important to somebody.
The NIH allotted the $1.5 million to Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital to conduct the research into lesbian obesity. According to the NIH, more than 3 quarters of lesbian women in the U.S. are obese. The NIH hopes to learn how social and biological factors influence lesbian obesity.
Plus the fact that obesity leads to serious medical problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
“Obesity is a serious public health problem,” Robert Bock of the NIH said. “The study is examining reasons why the risk of obesity varies according to sexual orientation, in order to inform the development of future strategies to prevent obesity.”
