A West London radio station has banned Beyonce’s latest single from the station’s airwaves due to the song’s raunchy lyrics.
Bang FM banned Beyonce’s single “Drunk In Love” off her newly released self-titled album because the song contains “promotion of domestic violence against women.”
A spokesman for the station said, “BANG stands firm with their values, principles and passion for social justice. Respectful of what audiences want to hear on BANG Radio, Management believes this is the right action to take in regards to the controversial lyrics of the song and will continue to serve in social equality for people, through music and content on the station.”
In the song, the singer’s husband Jay Z, who features on the track alongside the pop starlet, raps: “Eat the cake Anna Mae.”
The lyrics derive from the film What’s Love Got To Do With It, the biopic of Tina Turner which catalogues her abusive relationship at the hands of ex husband Ike. The lyrics controversially imitate a scene of severe domestic violence within the film.
Jennifer Ogole, BANG Media and Entertainment, CEO, said: “We believe that all people, regardless of age, gender, sexuality or race should have the right to an enjoyable listen to our station, without the promotion of such morals.”
The offending track is taken from Beyoncé’s recently-released self-titled album and shows the singer writhing semi-clad on a beach with Jay Z. Source
London radio stations also banned American singer Chris Brown’s music after he was convicted of domestic assault against his then-girflriend Rihanna.
