California Democrat Maxine Waters is calling on Americans not to watch President Trump's State of the Union speech tonight. Millions of Democrats have vowed to skip the President's speech tonight, but they will tune in to watch Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams deliver the Democrats’ rebuttal afterwards.
The State of the Union Address was delayed a week after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi refused to allow Trump to speak in the House Chamber. She backed down when Trump temporarily ended the six week government shutdown last month.
Waters called Trump a liar in an interview with ESSENCE magazine on Monday. "I don't even know why he wants to come and give the State of the Union," she said. "The state of the union under him has not been good and he has been divisive, and I think he's putting us all in harm's way. And so he is not worthy of being listened to."
Waters, who has repeatedly called for Trump's impeachment, said, "I don't know why anybody would want to pay attention to anything that he has to say. He lies over and over again. Like I said, 6,000 lies have been documented since he's been there."
She continued: "But since he's a great liar, he'll say anything because he's capable of saying anything without facts, without research."
The 80-year-old St. Louis native said she will keep her TV turned off during Trump's speech, and she urged Americans to do the same.
Trump's SOTU speech will be carried live on all 3 major news networks and most cable news stations at 9 PM.
Trump's speech will also be live-streamed at this link and on Youtube.com.
