Former child star Lark Vorhies is 38 now, and finally she's happy in her own skin. Why can't we be happy for her?
Yesterday, the woman known to millions of Saved By The Bell fans as "Lisa Turtle" appeared on a segment of Yahoo's The Yo Show hosted by the flamboyant Michael Yo.
Married with one child, Lark appeared to be relaxed and quite content after all these years living in the shadow of her perky TV character. Lark probably doesn't care that her mature appearance has sparked such an uproar on social networks such as Twitter.com.
Did she have plastic surgery? Is she bleaching? Maybe. But shouldn't her skin be lighter if she was bleaching? Does she wear a ton of makeup? Yes, but most women do because they fear they will be judged harshly if they don't.
Yes, kids, stars get old. And some of them drop the pretenses of going through the motions of maintaining Hollywood's standard of beauty.
Remember when your mom and aunty used to lose their minds over D'Angelo back in the day? It wasn't just his smooth vocals that made the ladies lose it, it was his hard, beefcake bod too! There was no doubt about it; D'Angelo was a good looking man. Plus, he had the confidence to go with his dashing good looks -- or so we thought...
It turns out that D'Angelo, real name Michael Archer, wasn't emotionally equipped to handle his growing fame. D'Angelo mistakenly believed his music was not appreciated by his fans as much as his hawt bod was. So, like most artists who lose their focus, D'Angelo dropped out of the music scene. Paralyzed with self-doubt, he neglected his music and turned to a life of drugs and alcohol abuse.
Along the way, D'Angelo, now 37, was arrested for drug possession and DUI's. He did a stint in drug rehab in 2006. And on Mar. 10, 2010, he was arrested for soliciting oral sex from a female undercover officer in New York City.
But despite his many setbacks, the old D'Angelo made a triumphant return to the stage during a performance in Paris, France over the weekend. Watch the performance after the break!
Taylor Swift continued her outreach program for African American fans by bringing out rapper Nelly (who has fallen off considerably) during her Speak Now concert in Houston. "We’ve got a special treat for you tonight, Houston. Nelly’s here!," she said as the audience applauded politely for the "Tip Drill" rapper. Taylor and Nelly then performed her hit "Just a Dream."
In previous shows, Taylor has surprised her country music fans with appearances by T.I, Usher and B.O.B.
Earlier this week, Taylor introduced the newest member of her family to her millions of followers on Twitter.
The tweets are talking about a knock down drag out slugfest between rapper Fabolous and Brandy's little brother, Ray J.
If you recall, Ray J came to prominence when he came in appeared with his ex-girlfriend Kim Kardashian in that viral video a few years back. Well, the tweets are saying that Fabolous rocked Ray J's world last night. Ray J phoned into Power 105.1’s Breakfast Club this morning to address the rumors, and things didn't go well.
Still unwilling to take the hint his last album’s sales figures tried to send him, Soulja Boy has released a new video for the song, “Conceited.”
Sounding like a Kappa with Down syndrome, Diamond’s new sponsor boasts, “I look so good, I look so pretty. I’m conceited.” If that hook wasn’t cliché-ridden enough for you, Soulja Boy proceeds to snatch T-Pain’s now discarded vocoder to rinse and repeat his narcissistic lines.
As for that fuck bloggers line and threats of getting robbed, Sheree Whitfield trying to school somebody on the repo man sounds more believable.
Perhaps DeAndre is feeling himself ‘cause he knows Remy Ma’s last parole hearing was unsuccessful so she can’t pistol whip him for jocking her swag.
Remember when lil Tevin Campbell released his bubble gum R&B hit "Tomorrow (A Better You Better Me)" and we all thought he would be the next Michael Jackson? Then he dropped his debut album T.E.V.I.N., which ended all speculation that he was destined to be an icon.
The album did spawn the hit single "Tell Me What You Want Me To Do", which peaked at #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.
Just when we thought Tevin would be a two-hit wonder, he came roaring back with his followed up album, I'm Ready, which yielded the romantic ballads, "Can We Talk" and "I'm Ready".
It looked like Tevin was well on his way to being an R&B success. But like many others before him, Tevin gave in to the temptations of drugs and alcohol, which ravaged his choir boy looks.
In September 1999, Campbell was arrested for soliciting sex from a male undercover police officer. He pleaded no contest and was ordered to pay a stiff fine and to attend AIDS awareness classes. The court order sparked rumors that he was HIV positive.
Now 34, Campbell is struggling to resurrect his music and acting careers.
Rapper Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, left, and singer Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas of TLC performed onstage during Fox's "American Idol 2011" finale show held at Nokia Theatre LA Live in Los Angeles yesterday. T-Boz's thick appearance prompted a slew of pregnancy rumors on social networking sites Twitter and Facebook last night. T-Boz, 41, suffers from Sickle Cell Anemia and has been in and out of hospitals. In 2009, T-Boz talked about her battle with a brain tumor. T-Boz has a 10-year-old daughter, Chase Anela Rolison, who was fathered by rapper Mack 10.
The BET nominations were announced last night. Troubled singer Chris Brown leads all nominees with 6, and comedian Kevin Hart will be handling the hosting duties.
Unfortunately, a few past artists who thought their body of work was still relevant today caught feelings when they found out they weren't even acknowledged.
Rapper Trina and singer Keyshia Cole took to their Twitter pages in disgust to make their feelings known to the BET network.
In a series of tweets last night and this morning, Keyshia wrote:
That awkward moment when u realize in everyone's eyes your not the sh*t anymore. #POW. I've officially got the memo. Thank mtv/bet... These types of thing R the way they R. I'm not upset about any of it in any way. I hope everyone that goes has a wonderful time... N while we're addressing everything, Lil Kim and I a r not "friends" I take that term very seriously. We made wonderful music. That is it.
She wrote a little more, but you get the gist of it.
The cast of the 1980's hit 'The Cosby Show' attended the TV LAND Awards 2011, held at the Jacob Javits Center North in NYC last night. It pains me and saddens me to say that Bill Cosby's TV daughter, Tempestt Bledsoe (Vanessa), has fallen victim to the self-hate syndrome that seems to be a scourge in our community. Yes, Tempest is bleaching her skin.
The 37-year-old married 'A Different World' star Darryl Bell (Ron). Maybe she's trying to be his complexion? Do better Tempestt!
Thankfully, Cosby TV daughter Keshia Knight Pulliam, 32, (who played Rudy), posing right with TV sister Sabrina LeBeauf (Saundra), is a beautiful Nubian sista who clearly takes prides in her African heritage. By the way, does Sabrina look hawt for 53, or what?
Reality TV stars NeNe Leakes, left, and Hope Hope Dworaczyk (2010 Playmate of the Year), gave former rapper Lil Jon a lift at the "Celebrity Apprentice" Premiere Viewing Party at BLUSH Nightclub at Wynn Las Vegas in Las Vegas yesterday.
"Football Wives" star Chanita Foster was also in attendance looking fabulous in Gucci from head to toe. See what a difference a new grade of weave makes?
Former rappers Lil Jon, left, and Flavor Flav bonded at the viewing party last night.
Rapper Young Jeezy, left, posed with Def Jam exec Bu Thiam at the Velvet Room in Tucker, Georgia last night.
Moments after American Idol contestant performed Smokie Norful's mournful plea, "I Need You Now", Smokie's name began trending on the popular social networking website Twitter.com. Until last night, many young people had never heard of Smokie or his most popular 2002 hit. Langone's rendition of the song stirred emotions in the hearts of young people who testified their desire to find Jesus in these, their darkest days.
Below is Smokie's live extended version of "I Need You Now".
Rapper Da Brat told TMZ.com that she was the Most Wanted lesbun while she was incarcerated for 3 years in a rural Georgia prison.
As you know, Brat was sentenced to 3 years for beating the living daylights out of a cocktail waitress with a rum bottle at JD’s now defunct Studio 72 nightclub in Decatur.
Da Brat, real name Shawntae Harris, 36, said she did NOT strike up a romance with another female inmate during her time behind bars ... though she insists everyone wanted a shot at her "goodies."
That's probably because her most frequent visitor -- her longtime Bosnian girlfriend (pictured above) -- kept everybody in check. I forget the chick's name, but I'm told she was there front and center during visiting hours putting her goodies on the glass for Da Brat to admire -- this, according to my confidential informant.
I probably could do a little digging into my archives to recover her name -- if I really cared -- which I don't, because she totally ignored my request when I asked her to pour some tea when Da Brat first got locked up a few years ago.
Even though she fit the profile of a ride-or-die chick, my sources tell me there might be a little trouble in paradise.
It seems the bodyguard that Da Brat hired to shadow her girlfriend while Brat was locked up, has been conspicuously missing from the scene for the past 6-8 months. My source said Brat's girlfriend has been solo dolo in the clubs every weekend.
That could mean anything from Da Brat running out of cash to them breaking up and Da Brat no longer needed the bodyguard's services. If you recall, rapper T.I. also hired a bodyguard to keep an eye on his future wife, Tiny, the first time he was locked up in 2009.
We'll find out if they're still together when Da Brat is released from house arrest in 3-6 months, at which time she plans on "making it rain at a club" with Jermaine Dupri's leftover Janet Jackson money.
Guess who was spotted hugging and kissing professional dancer Chelsie Hightower, 21, in a parking lot today in West Hollywood? The answer will surprise you considering who his daddy is. Hint: he's on the rebound after a failed attempt to become the next Kobe Bryant.
