Presidential front runner Sen. Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama chuckle as they cast their votes in Hyde Park, Chicago today at 7:36 am (we wonder if they slept a wink last night?).

The couple were accompanied to the polling place by their children Malia, 18, and Sasha, 7. We are so happy to see that Malia has returned to her roots by wearing the traditional ethnic twist hairstyle.

A loyal reader emailed me a while back to complain that Malia had ditched her twists for a more straight, “mainstream approved” hairstyle during the Democratic National Convention.

Of course I didn’t dare post that email or my response to it lest I end up on CNN again for voicing my opinion.

I know they didn’t, b/c neither did I. I went to sleep at 8. I had a peppermint for dinner (no lie). I was up at 1230 and again @ 437. I usually wake up at 5. I tossed and I turned. I walked the house a couple of times. I prayed until 615 this morning. Then I had to go and chase the damn garbage truck down the street in my big ass purple Barney robe, because I forgot to put the trash out last night. Called a couple of friends and told them to get their asses up and go vote. Then I came in here and couldn’t even log on before fatty YT turned and asked me “did you vote THIS MORNING?”. I politely said “NO”. So I know in her head she is thinking that I didn’t vote at all, when in fact I went Saturday morning and stood in line for an hour before the place opened and cast my ballot. Anywho I’m just glad that after today, AFTER TODAY, AFTER TODAY, YALL………….WE WON’T HAVE TO SEE NO MORE DAMN POLITICAL COMMERCIALS. If they show even one, I’m throwing a brick through my damn TV screen.

As I worked my way thru the line I noticed somebody must have said something to a polling official because they brought out a portable voting mechanism (I believe they use for folks that are physically challenged)! But trust and believe..that sista was in it for the long haul cause you could tell by the look of determination on her face!

And yes I stood in line from 6:15 to 7:20 before voting this morning, my little brother voted for the 1st time, so many young people … what a day today will be.

Whether Barack wins or not, his being in the election ands making it this far represents change for real.

@ MissGauzzz .. I saw all types of people, some of the seniors looked to be on the last leg and at 6:30 we found out one of the poll machines malfunctioned so we were down to one, but everyone waited and voted … determined is a fraction of what voters are for today.

Good morning SR Fam

What usually takes me twenty minutes – took me 1 hour and a half today. I didnt care what I had to do. We talked to old and young (my brother and I). I was voting this morning! Sometimes our people can really let us down – people were acting stupid and complaining b/c it was crowded. Just be patience today of all days, be patience and vote.
I wont even comment on the blog – SR Fam got to that before me.

They knew the lines were going to be long. This is why they had the early voting. Look at all the seats in the audience when Obama is campaiging and giving speaches vs McCains. McCain spoke yesterday and there were 8,000 in attendence. I am glad I took advantage of “the early voting.

I think only 38 states participated in the early voting but yeap they should be able to stand in line for something this important. We know when they are even handing out free “anything” those lines are long. “The back to school supplies, clothes for the kids”. Free “day old bread”. LOL. I don’t do lines either. This is different. I got in and out and I am just going to wait on the results.

In Raliegh the ballots got WET .. so they couldn’t put them in the machines .. someone else hit a elec transformer so the power is out in a polling place .. all of the polling places with probs are in black neighborhoods… In Va Beach .. there are SO many Polling places Out …

Notice the TWO key battle ground states are having these issues …

Voters can report problems to CNN Voter Hotline at 877-462-6608.
In New Jersey, voting machine failures were reported in Willingboro, Newark and Maplewood.

Voters in Texas, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas reported receiving text messages telling Democrats to vote on Wednesday, the day after the election. An e-mail circulated in Arkansas also told voters they could still cast their ballots on Wednesday.

A caller from Shaker Heights, Ohio, reported that ballots at one polling station didn’t include the page to vote for president. There were only ballots for state issues, the caller said.

A soggy and delayed start to the voting day in a Raleigh, North Carolina, precinct, after some confusion at the polling station. Wake County Board of Elections director Cherie Poucher reported there were problems this morning at the Barwell Road Community Center (formerly the Ebenezer Church Road precinct). She confirmed that the chief judge forgot to take the ballots out of her grandson’s truck when being dropped off this morning. The elections director says the truck drove away, and the judge wasn’t able to track down her grandson. The Board of Elections delivered new ballots and voting began at 7:06am, 36 minutes behind schedule. Approximately 300 people were waiting in line.

“When the board meets today, I expect that they will vote to keep the precinct open an additional 36 minutes,” Poucher added.

Rain has also been a factor this morning in Wake County, North Carolina. Soaking voters dripped water onto their ballots as they were filling them out, causing problems for the optical scanners.

“When we put the ballot through the scanner it is soggy and doesn’t go through,” Poucher said. “One ripped and got stuck when the voter tried to get it out.” The scanner then had to be taken out of service.

Poucher said voters with soggy ballots were being asked to deposit them in the emergency ballot box. When they are dried and the scanners are back up and running, the ballots will be put through the optical scanners, the official added.

Folks been told to come back tomorrow. Too bad ppl are still to stupid and fall for this trick. I was listening to TJMS and someone dropped off paper ballets only they were wet but still passed out to the voters. They are not legible. This is the problem with too many ppl. It is ok to do your own research. Some first timers are saying that they did not know anything about the rest of the issues Most only wanted to vote for Our Next Presidet and that is fine, but turn the tv off BET and Videos and turn on your local news and read a news paper. People acting like there are no other issues to vote for and were surprised that Obama and McCain were not the only two presidential candidates. I hope for all the first time voters that this will inspire you to continue to be a part of your community (vocally).

The computer has a card that is used and when you are done your vote is printed like a register receipt but instead of the computer printing out a copy for you it stays in the computer. So to me it’s an electroic vote along with a paper back up.

What they should do is send all those people to another voting spot. Is it me or are these ballots confusing. I voted earlier today and I used a paper ballot, I voted wrong on the judges. I had to vote again on the computer. It was touch screen and if you made a mistake it let you know so you can go back and correct it. When you were done it printed your ballot out.

I was on my merry way with my “VOTED” sticker, : ).

Please believe Cuyahoga County in Ohio has messed up the electronic vote machine so badly that we will never see them again. We had the good old fashion paper ballot. Just like a standardized test.

This is the 2nd year they gave it to me. They phucked me over this year when our staff accountant went on leave for cancer surgery, so I think they felt bad. Plus we got rid of an employee so I think the budget was open. That still don’t excuse the dumb shyt that comes out of these peoples mouths. The job itself isn’t bad, but these people… lawd help me.

@shunda….well this is fact, not fiction, about our preacher man. everybody in raleigh prolly has at least heard about it. like i say this has been going down since 1994-95. anybody other than indesign from raleigh? it is a pretty big church. it is not a so called “mega church” but the roots and the original church (still standing on the grounds and used for baptisms and weddings, etc.) date back to late 1800’s when the slaves from a white church up the street founded their own congregation.

we don’t have many mega churches around here. just shirley caesar’s (which has not one, but TWO atm machines) and a few others….

Wow that is too much. The preacher in the book is Curtis Black. She has written like 3 or 4 books about him. A lot of her readers thought it was based on a real pastor. I am going to have to look and see if yours was mentioned
