Rapper Jay Z held a well-attended press conference this morning at Madison Square Garden to announce a charity concert on September 11 at MSG — coincidentally, the same day his not-so-anticipated album The Blueprint 3 drops.
The third single off the album, “Run This Town” featuring Rihanna and Knaye West, got mixed reviews and was subsequently dismissed by music critics and fans alike.
The charity concert will raise money for the New York Police, Fire Widows and Children’s Benefit Funds. While the intentions behind the gig are good, we wonder if Jay Z would have been so charitable if his album wasn’t dropping that same day?
By the way, The Blueprint 3 leaked all over the Internets this past weekend. The entire album can be heard online at MTV.com and Rhapsody.com tomorrow.
*sigh*
Another post.
9/11 happened 8 years ago. Jay has dropped about 3 albums since then. When has he ever given a concert to help them? So I think its safe to say he is doing this for the sell of his album.
Smh @ how much that interview with XXL turned me off. Thanks MizzDallas.
Run This Town is a great song. I can’t wait for this album to drop
!!!
Damn…I wish I was in NYC during this time
!!!
I LOVED run this town, but i havent liked any other songs that have leaked from his album.
if you knew your history you would know that the ORIGINAL Blueprint dropped on September 11, 2001…
jay-z is history with his old azz and that hot garbabge bp3
Would that be found under American History?
The only entertainment I remember about that time is MJ had his big concert the night before and Whitney showed up looking like death to the point rumors were spread she died.

Thank you! I checked my history books and I couldn’t find that info in there. In fact, I checked the calendar and Sept. 11, 2001 fell on a Tuesday – the day that the industry normally releases new product. This Sept. 11 falls on a Friday! So, yes, Jay Z should be ashamed of himself for exploiting such a mournful occasion for his own financial benefit.
“Run this Town” was #3 on billboard Hot 100..currently like #5. If that isn’t a hit, then what is?
In 2001, Jay-Z released The Blueprint which was later considered by many to be one of hip hop’s “classic” albums, receiving the coveted 5 mic review from The Source magazine. Released during the wake of September 11 attacks, the album managed to debut at number one on the Billboard 200, selling more than 427,000 units, the album’s success was overshadowed by the tragic event.
We have to look at the signs. Who is the charity organizer?
People forget that charities are organizations that takes money and it gets filtered through so many hands, by the time it gets to the victims it will be a low low amount. Usually freemason’s keep a fund to help their organization, alot of charity money goes to the fund. Jay Z’s lyrics are not that inspiring or positive for him to give a concert in honor of 911 victims. Keep your eyes and ears open.
at least he’s doing somethingn even if (its like free promotion for his album….
I agree Sandra, I see right through Jay. I used to LOVE his music but he’s VERY blasphemous and bold now-a-days and I see right through that mess. Smh.
like she said the original blueprint came out on sept 11 which was a tuesday so being that he got control of this album he thought it would be cool to come out on the same day as the first blueprint. which could be dangerous being that its a friday and way off cycle release that could very well break his record of 10 consecutive number 1 albums but being his fan base is strong he will come with a number 1 album in 3 days and have his 11th straight number one album. when he was out giving the water wells to countries and places in need he barely got any press for that and no album was out then he did so because he wanted to

I think he’ll still sell well. He has no real competition to go against. And I remember when he gave out the wells for the people in Africa. It was aired on MTV like a Diary.. That’s not enough press?.. Not so sure he didn’t have an album out then though.
the album’s success was overshadowed by the tragic event
As well as it should’ve been. Any ‘entertainment’ fluff should’ve been put on the back burner in light of the tragedy of 911.
But that was then and this is now and as some have said, JayZ has a major fanbase and lots of money so he will still sell well regardless of opinion of the singles’ content.
