One day after 13-year-old brain dead Jahi MacMath was moved from a California children’s hospital to an undisclosed location, her family and lawyer finally concedes her situation is hopeless.
“Right now, we don’t know if she’s going to make it,” said attorney Christopher Dolan.
On Friday, a judge ruled the family could take the deceased eighth grader from Children’s Hospital Oakland to an undisclosed location. But Dolan admits the body is too badly deteriorated from decay and failing organs to save it.
“She’s in very bad shape,” Dolan said during a press conference at his law office Monday evening. “What I can tell you is that those examinations show that her medical condition, separate from the brain issue, is not good.”
Jahi has been ventilator-dependent since suffering a cardiac arrest after hemorrhaging following a tonsillectomy, sinus and upper palate surgical procedures to treat sleep apnea on Dec. 9.
Two hospital physicians and 3 independent doctors brought in by the family declared her brain dead with no blood flow or signs of electrical activity in her cerebrum.
But Jahi’s family refused to acknowledge her death. They clung to their religious beliefs and fought the hospital’s attempts to remove Jahi from the ventilator.
On Sunday, the hospital turned Jahi’s body over to the coroner who released the body to Jahi’s mother just before 8 p.m. A private ambulance was seen leaving the hospital loading dock with the body.
Dolan said Monday that Jahi is now receiving potassium, minerals and hormones through an IV. She is also receiving antibiotics for an infection. But she isn’t receiving nutrition due to “physical problems that do not allow surgical insertion of a feeding tube.”
Jahi was checked into an unnamed facility on Monday morning. The owner of a controversial brain injury center in NY who offered to take Jahi insisted that she needed time for her brain to recover from whole brain death.
“Her brain needs time to heal. It’s a new injury,” Scerri told CNN Sunday. “We believe in life after injury, all of us here at New Beginnings have first-hand experience because we have a loved one that was in the same situation as Jahi.”

I think she is “clinically” brain dead, but her organs are still fuctioning. I never heard that she was on life support. It is sad. I understand not wanting to let go of your child, some (tv media) are saying that she is not there, just a shell in her body.
Next order of business.. mega lawsuit for Oakland children’s hosp. The lawyer is something else
really need this family to let go this little girl. get autopsy and try to find out what happened. NO coming back from complete brain death, once that stem is gone, its a wrap and she flat lined weeks ago. i couldnt imagine losing one of my kids, i cant fathom what they are going thru, but they have to accept the inevitable

This basically has turned into a science experiment. . Do they ever consider testing the mental compactly of the person making decisions? They raised 50k to get her moved she has state funded insurance. There are millions of kids who could benefit from the money they are tying up. This has moved from sad and tragic to ridiculous .
There is a time when you have to ask God to help you accept reality. This one of those time.
I don’t know how these parents could watch their child’s body deteriorate. I couldn’t do it.
Perhaps they are dealing with a lot of guilt. Obese children are often mistreated by family members and peers. This may be the case with this precious little girl.
Whatever the case, my sympathy and prayers :praying: go out to them.

Well, I don’t see why the family didn’t know it was coming. After the hospital declared her brain dead, they refused to keep her feeding tube going so she has basically been starving for over 20 days now. They literally just hooked her back up to the feeding tube after they moved her, I think.
Also, she is brain dead and as we know, the brain regulates so much in our body. I feel so bad for this family. I know all of it has to seem so surreal. It was such a routine surgery.

What people need to realize is there is risks with any type of surgery even the small ones. I remember when I had to get a abscess drained and packed. I was checking my insurance and funeral home paper AND my will. My partner thought I was a pure-d-clown. Chit I said you the fool as much as you stay in a hospital.

It really is; I trust in God not man. I dislike most doctors as well. In my mind they ain’t studied enough and rush to get yo ass out and will prescribe every drug known to man that’s out.

I grew up in the traditional Southern Baptist church…you know, the kind that start at 11am and then end at about 4 in the afternoon. My Grandma made us go to Sunday school, praise and worship, vacation bible school, service, evening service, revival etc…They hollered shouted danced and the preacher hollered and ran and sweated and cartwheeled and layed hands and what not. When I became an adult, I left that church and joined a church that focused more on TEACHING instead of PERFORMING. I never remembered the sermons at the old church because more focus was placed on ENTERTAINMENT. The church me and my husband and kids go to actually TEACH the congregation without all the shenanigans and I actually remember what is taught to me. AND service starts at 11:15 and ends at 12:15 TUH!! AND they have that fie shoney’s breafus buffet set up at 10:30 after Sunday school…WE IN THERE!!

Hate to hear people say “God’s will” you can’t possibly believe God would allow an innocent little girl to suffer and die under these circumstances. God is the God of love, and he allows us to make our own choices and decisions, and in that we have human error.
I pray God will comfort this family in their time of need.
When I saw chuck, the first thing I said was ‘wow, he lost a lot of weight.’ Kandi has said before that she likes guys with meat on them, so it made sense. Plus, she dated Gerald Levert, so I believe she does like chunky guys.

Come on people – does the family not have pastor or someone of faith that can counsel them to accept the obvious and say goodbye? I’ve never lost a child – my heart goes out to Jahi’s family, but it is what it is.
This childs mom is letting her guilt drive her thought process and it is not good.
