A suspect has been named in the I-20 shooting of a Miami rapper who was affiliated with Ciara‘s boyfriend, rapper Future.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Christopher Dyer, 25, has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of James D. Lewiel, whose rap name was OG Double D.
Lewiel, 42, was shot to death while driving a weeks old $400,000 Maybach on I-20 near Glenwood Avenue during rush hour in April 2013. The gunman fled the scene in a white SUV driven by an accomplice.
Lewiel was shot multiple times and died at the scene. The up-and-coming rapper was reportedly a member of Future’s Freebandz record label. Freebandz is distributed by Epic Records.
Lewiel, who was rumored to be a street pharmaceuticals distributor, was visiting from Miami when he was killed.
Family members told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he had visited South DeKalb Mall twice that day, and they believe he was followed from the mall.
Dyer, 25, is currently in jail at the Marion Correctional Institution in Ocala, Fla., on 2012 burglary and grand theft auto charges from Volusia County, Fla., according to jail records.
He is also wanted in Palm Beach County, Fla., according to jail records.
DeKalb police spokesman Capt. Stephen Fore said Dyer is awaiting extradition from Florida to DeKalb. Source
In photos and YouTube videos posted on Lewiel’s Twitter and Instagram accounts, Lewiel flashed wads of cash, showed off his expensive watches and posed with the Maybach he would eventually die in.
