Broke rapper 50 Cent admits his flashy lifestyle is all fake. The 40-year-old NY native said his cars are all rented and his jewelry is on borrowed time.
The rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, III, said the Bentleys, Lamborghinis and Rolls Royces he flashes in music videos are not his. “Those cars were rented,” said Jackson under oath in Manhattan Supreme court Tuesday morning.
“It’s like music videos, they say action and you see all these fancy cars but everything goes back to the dealership,” he added.
And as for the bling and Rolexes, “I borrowed from the jeweler,” he said.
Jackson said he owns just 3 gold chains to his name. He said he occasionally asks a jeweler friend to melt the old chains down and recreate a new gold piece.
Jackson made the revelations during a hearing to determine how much actual damages he owes Lastonia Leviston, 33.
Leviston, who is rapper Rick Ross’ baby mama, sued Jackson for posting her sex tape online without her permission in 2009. She was caught in the middle of an ongoing feud between the 2 rappers that began in 2008.
Last week, a jury awarded Leviston $5 million in punitive damages. On Monday, Jackson filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, claiming he was $50 million in debt.
Jackson explained to the jury why he maintains a fraudulent lifestyle.
“You gotta smile when you’re in a public situation. If you’re crying they’re just having more fun with you,” he said.
