Master P publicly checked Kevin Hart for demanding celebrities open their wallets and donate to Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas. The 47-year-old Louisiana rapper criticized the pint-sized comedian in an interview with gossip webloid TMZ on Tuesday.
The tropical storm struck Texas over the weekend resulting in widespread flooding and devastation in the Houston metropolitan area.
In response to the natural disaster, Kevin issued a video challenge to his celebrity friends to match his donation of $25,000 to the American Red Cross to help with relief efforts.
Celebrities such as Chris Brown, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, and others answered the challenge by donating over $1 million collectively.
Although Master P has donated money to help people in Texas and Louisiana, he feels strong-arming stars into giving money is the wrong approach.
He told TMZ.com, “I’m blessed that Kevin Hart made a donation but I feel like he don’t have to do that because it’s not necessary, I mean a lot of people gonna do what they wanna do, I mean it’s their money.”
“I don’t think you need to do that with other people, let them give from their heart,” added the hip hop mogul, whose real name is Percy Robert Miller.
His hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, resulting in more than 1,800 deaths, but he feels charity should be a personal matter.
Master P is currently dating T.I.’s estranged wife Tameka “Tiny” Harris, 42. The couple are team owners in the newly founded mixed gender professional basketball league.
