A Gwinette-based dermatologist and plastic surgeon is under investigation after former patients filed malpractice complaints against her. Channel 2 Action News reports Dr. Windell Boutte settled 5 medical malpractice lawsuits in the past six months.
In one of those cases, 26-year-old Ojay Liburd filed a lawsuit on behalf of his mother, Icilma Cornelius, who suffered a permanent brain injury when her heart stopped, cutting off oxygen to her brain during the 8-hour long operation.
The operation took place weeks before her wedding, and she was credits away from earning her Ph.D. Now Cornelius requires long term full-time care for the rest of her life.
“She just wanted to be perfect for her wedding dress,” Liburd told Channel 2 consumer investigator Jim Strickland. “She had everything going for her.”
Strickland reports the Georgia Composite Medical Board has launched an investigation into the doctor’s unsafe practices.
Among the evidence against Boutte are 21 Youtube videos that shows the cosmetic surgeon dancing in the operating room while reciting the lyrics to rapper T.I.’s hit song “Whatever You Like”.
As the doctor raps, two nurses are seen dancing and gyrating their hips while the patient lays unconscious on the table. The doctor is even seen cutting into the patient while rapping.
“I think there is a small U-Haul’s worth of information that has been provided to the Composite Medical Board,” said malpractice attorney Susan Witt who represents two of Dr. Boutte’s former patients.
Witt told Strickland she’s frustrated because she has seen no disciplinary action taken against the doctor.
