Rev. Dr. Bernice King responded to Jonathan Majors comparing his girlfriend to her mother, civil rights icon Coretta Scott King.

Majors mentioned Coretta’s name while praising his girlfriend, Meagan Good, after his domestic violence conviction.

“She’s an angel. She’s held me down… like a Coretta,” he told ABC News anchor Linsay Davis in an exclusive interview on Monday, Jan. 8.

Previously, Majors said his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari should support him like Coretta Scott King and Michelle Obama supported their husbands.

In a post on Twitter/X, Bernice King reminded Majors that her mother “wasn’t a prop.”

She wrote:

“My mother wasn’t a prop.

She was a peace advocate before she met my father and was instrumental in him speaking out against the Vietnam War.

Please understand…my mama was a force.”

King also included a link to an essay she wrote for HuffPost in 2017 about her mother’s impact on civil rights.

A Manhattan jury convicted Majors on a single charge of assault and harassment on December 18, 2023.

His sentencing is scheduled for February 6. He faces a maximum of 1 year in jail.
