A special aide to President Barack Obama is cooling her heels in a jail cell after she attempted to shoot her police officer boyfriend with his own gun because she thought he was cheating on her.
Prosecutors say Barvetta Singletary tried to shoot her boyfriend, a Capitol police officer, with his own service weapon.
Singletary, who also serves as House Legislative Affairs liaison, squandered her career as a top White House advisor — just threw it all to the wind — because her petty jealousy got the best of her.
Her boyfriend had the temerity to keep a secret cell phone — a necessary tool when dealing with a clingy, high-strung woman.
From NBC Washington:
According to charging documents, Barvetta Singletary sent her boyfriend a text on Friday, asking him to come to her Upper Marlboro home for sex. After they had sex, Singletary confronted her boyfriend about other woman he was dating.
Investigators say Singletary asked her boyfriend to step outside, and they both went to his car. Once inside the car, police say Singletary asked to see her boyfriend’s cellphones. When he refused, Singletary reached into his bag and retrieved two cell phones and the victim’s .40 caliber Glock 23 service weapon, charging documents state.
Singletary ran back into her home and the victim followed, pleading with her to return his weapon.
Prosecutors say Singletary pointed the gun at her boyfriend and ordered him to give her the passwords to his phones so she could read his text messages. But the boyfriend refused.
She then told him, “You taught me how to use this. Don’t think I won’t use it,” according to the arrest warrant obtained by NBC.
When the boyfriend again refused to give her the passwords, Singletary squeezed off a single round in his general direction.
Singletary’s frightened boyfriend — a police officer — ran for his life.
A neighbor who heard the commotion told Capitol police he saw Singletary wipe down the gun with a towel — another tip her police boyfriend probably gave her.
The Secret Service revoked Singletary’s access to the White House.
