The jury is hung in the trial of Officer William Porter, one of six officers indicted in the death of Freddie Gray.
Gray, 25, died of complications due to a severed spine he suffered during a “rough ride” in the back of a police van in April.
Freddie Gray’s death sparked civil unrest and rioting that left 20 officers injured and millions of dollars in property damage in Baltimore.
The jury deliberated for three days before informing the judge they were hopelessly deadlocked.
The judge declared a mistrial and a hearing is scheduled for Wednesday to reschedule a trial.
All six officers were indicted in May on misconduct in office and reckless endangerment charges. Porter was the first officer to go on trial.
Porter is free on bail pending a retrial.

Porter testified that he was told by Freddie Gray that he needed medical attention and he (Porter) in turn notified the driver and his supervisor. I could be wrong, but I think the testimony of Porter is going to be used to bring the others down.
Hung jury is better than Not Guilty.

Firstly, you’d have to prove the cops knew Gray’s neck was broken. Secondly, Gray was no longer in the custody of the attesting officers when his injury allegedly occurred. Thirdly, how would the cop driving the police van know Gray needed emergency medical attention?

if he had been properly secured before the van was operated, it might had been apparent at the time he was being secured OR if he was not secured and sustained injuries because he was cuffed and unable to break his own fall or protect himself by using his hands during the operation of the van.

Not only is a driver’s loud music an ordinance violation in some jurisdictions, it can also be seen as a safety issue. That means in addition to being ticketed for a noise violation, you could be ticketed for driving while distracted, as well.

In some cases, the music doesn’t have to be loud enough to disturb others, just loud enough to be a potential distraction to the driver. That alone could be seen as probable cause for a traffic stop.

I had all my things in order. She TRIED get LOUD. I almost started to whisper I was SO LIT. License and Tags. I got pulled over because of car in my garage that tags were dead, but they link it to all cars in your name. She got all nice towards the end.
Additionally they have a tool that scans your license without incidence.

Last Friday, during Rush hour on 95N in Maryland. A police officer, gave chase to car that he tried to pull over. The car that had two passengers, crossed the median, in traffic heading the opposite direction and hit another call traveling southbound.
A passenger in each car was killed. The office went home on Friday. Somewhere two families are making arrangements for a funeral.

You are right, he was always in their custody and because of this they were responsible for him. When this first unfolded I asked someone who knows firsthand what is supposed to be done and according to him, once a person asks for medical assistance they are supposed to receive medical assistance. They don’t have to know the extent of the injury either, just that he is requesting medical assistance… at least that’s how it was supposed to be done in NYPD.

This is what I’ve been saying since the start, is that it isn’t necessarily about race, it’s more of a flawed (but somewhat logical) mentality. It’s a mentality that most law enforcement personnel have. Because these people constantly deal with violent, no good, ghetto black people, they begin to develop a complex where they see these people as nothing more than animalistic criminals. It doesn’t matter if they’re black themselves either, because they’ll start to subconsciously disassociate themselves with the black identity, and begin to have the same mentality as above. We all know what the root cause is, but I’ll keep that to myself.

People everywhere seem to want to get out of jury duty until a jury doesn’t give their biased opinion as a verdict. The jury deadlocked on all charges, they could not agree or compromise on reckless endangerment or reckless conduct. Therefore the judge declared a mistrial.
Social @sstivists creating chaos clearly do not understand the judicial process. There’s $6.4 million reasons a mistrial is better than an acquittal or a not guilty verdict. Let’s hope this inept over-reaching prosecutor has learned from her mistake, of conducting the weakest case first for which she has over charged and justice is served.

Apparently, Baltimore officers are required to secure arrestees when transporting them. Prior to Gray’s arrest, Officer William Porter was sent an email informing him of this requirement.
Porter maintains that he didn’t strap Gray in, because few officers actually follow that rule, and because the van is such a tight space, he feared coming in close contact with Gray.
Regarding Porter’s refusal to call a medic, Porter said he thought Gray was faking.
Furthermore, Porter stated that Gray couldn’t give him a valid reason for his request for emergency assistance.
Here’s the problem folks… in order to get a conviction, the prosecution will have to prove the officers knew their actions could possibly result in injury or death.
It may be against department regulations, but if cops are routinely tossing prisoners into police vans without restraints, one could reasonably assume Gray wasn’t in danger.
As far as Gray’s request for a medic, like I said, arrestees fake injuries while in custody, all the time.

Based on the timeline, the van made approximately 5 or 6 stops before arriving at the police station.
The driver called for back up at the fifth stop and that’s when Poter arrived; which explains why Porter thought it would be easier to simply proceed to the station .

If you review the timeline of events, you see why the jury couldn’t unanimously convict him. The van made five stops. Porter was called to the fifth stop. Officer Porter had very little contact with Gray.
I almost wish the settlement came after the trials because I had a feeling the civil settlements would be viewed as enough justice. His mother will never recover from this how can she so I wish her comfort and strength always.

I know you have heard the saying, if you’re not part of the solution than you are part of the problem. Rioting and burning is not going to solve the problem, it just creates more problems because there are neighborhoods that are yet to be rebuilt from when we thought that was the solution. We need to recognize that it’s not just about the “choices” we make but about the choices that are made for us also. Trust me, we did not ask for the drugs to be brought into our neighborhoods, nor did we ask for our black men to fill the jails. It’s a viscous cycle and we need to find ways to break it. Back in the day we used to refer to this as the “Black man’s law” because the cops would use it on the black man time and time again.
That means someone would not allow him to get off the hook.

The point is that the officer denied him medical attention because he thought Gray was faking his injuries.
This defendant didn’t have the training to make that determination so all he was required to do was get Gray medical attention and allow the doctors to make the diagnosis.
That’s not for the cops to determine.
Once in custody the prisoner is the responsibility of the state (cops).

To a certain degree it is a freewill choice, but in my opinion drugs are brought into our neighborhoods and our children are exposed to it far more than non black children. I don’t mean to make it about race but think about it. Drugs can be prevalent in black communities long before it spreads to other communities and then, and only then it becomes a drug epidemic. Economic conditions for a great many black people encourage either the using or selling of drugs. Please don’t think I am condoning or making excuses for the drug problem, because I’m not. I just think more could be done instead of allowing it to fester.

I don’t know I went to a few minority elementary schools and they beat in our heads that drugs were bad (red ribbon week). The city I grew up in is nowhere near being a bad city or a large city for that matter…so my experience is relative. I can’t see having drugs always in your face being a cause for wanting to hit it because marijuana was surely always in my face everyday growing up (my parents hit that sh*t everyday 4-5 times a day lol) and I have never smoked it. I just think drugs in the black communities has been ignored along with a great many other issues that result in an inferior quality of life for too many.
