Camille Cosby invoked “spousal privilege” at least a dozen times during a lengthy deposition for a defamation lawsuit at a Massachusetts hotel on Monday, Feb. 22.
Mrs. Cosby, 71, refused to answer deeply personal questions about her private life with embattled comedian Bill Cosby, her husband of 52 years.
Bill Cosby, 78, is being sued for defamation by seven women who accused him of drugging and raping them.
The disposition was held at the Springfield Marriott in Massachusetts on Monday afternoon.
Camille Cosby endured two-and-a-half hours of questions from lawyer Joseph Cammarata before signaling she was tired at 7 p.m. She agreed to return on March 14 for a second round of questions.
A Massachusetts federal judge previously denied Camille Cosby’s request to cancel the deposition. But the judge gave Mrs. Cosby leeway to invoke spousal privilege to refuse answering personal questions about her married life.
The lawyers for the seven accusers argued that Camille was Cosby’s wife and business partner, which “muddied” the distinction of spousal privilege.
On Thursday, Bill Cosby dropped a defamation lawsuit against former supermodel Beverly Johnson who claimed Cosby drugged and “groped” her inside his luxury townhouse in Manhattan in the 1970s.
