Rhode Island’s youngest Black senator embarrassed and humiliated her ancestors by releasing a TikTok video of herself twerking for votes.
Most insulting to many was the fact that Mack did such a horrible job twerking. Now she’s complaining about the public backlash on social media.
This is what Demoncrats have to offer. Tiara Mack, RI Senate District 6 is an LGBTQ State senator twerking for your vote. Representation is nothing more than window dressing for system wired to fail for Black folks. pic.twitter.com/hRlzwurfqV

Mack defended her actions on Twitter.com by blaming the news media for her problems.
“Damn. Twerking upside down really makes the conservative, unhinged internet accounts pop off on a Monday. can the media cover any policy wins had by the youngest Black state senator in Rhode Island? can the media also cover the 10+ bills I sponsored that the @RISenate never scheduled for a hearing? As a Black, queer woman you all should know the answer. It’s no. Let’s them carry on their narrative. Me? I’m going to be joyful, free, and unbothered.”

Who is Tiara Mack? And why did she think releasing a twerking video was a good idea in this political climate?
Ms. Mack is an educated 28-year-old Democrat who was among a group of young Black LGBT+ lawmakers who made history when they were elected to public office in 2020. She assumed office on Jan. 5, 2021.
Other LGBT+ lawmakers elected in 2020 include Kim Jackson, a lesbian in the Georgia State Senate; Mauree Turner, a lesbian Muslim elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives; and Michele Rayner-Goolsby, a lesbian in Florida’s House of Representatives.
Mack, who is openly lesbian, was raised in Georgia and South Carolina by a single mother who worked as a teacher and struggled financially.
Mack moved to Providence, Rhode Island in 2012 and earned a BA in public health in 2016.
Check out more responses to Mack’s video below.
Tiara Mack is why blacks aren’t taken seriously. The only way to gain votes from black people is to use celebrity endorsements, Ebonics, twerking, and emotions. Not logic, polices, or candid conservations.

Do you have tik tok videos showcasing your policy wins?
— David W. Williams (@DavidWesWill) July 5, 2022
As someone who has chosen to showcase my body just to get people to donate to me so I can take care of my kids, this is really disappointing to see. Your achievements are amazing, so why degrade yourself and all black women like this? Was the media exposure worth it?

Do black women want to be taken seriously? If so why do we have black women who show off their bodies, use vulgar language, and sexualize everything as our representation in the media? Where are the women of elegance and grace? #tiaramack
