Young Thug might be released from jail after his legal team uncovered alleged dirty dealings by the Fulton County DA’s Office.
Young Thug, fellow rapper Gunna and 26 others were indicted on over 50 RICO charges in May. They are currently locked up without bond while awaiting trial in early 2023.
Thug’s attorneys filed a motion to dismiss the RICO charges after discovering the Fulton County DA’s Office illegally acquired evidence related to a rental car that is linked to a murder in 2015.
According to a 56-count indictment filed by Fulton County DA Fani Willis in May, Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, “rented a 2014 silver Infiniti Q50 sedan from HERTZ Rent-A-Car, which was used in the commission of the murder of Donovan Thomas, Jr., a rival gang member, on the 10th day of January, 2015.”
However, Thug’s legal team claims the DA’s Office obtained that information about the rental car illegally by falsifying legal documents in 2016.
Fani Willis did not assume office as Fulton County district attorney until 2021.

Thug’s lawyers asked the court to throw out the illegally obtained evidence and dismiss the RICO charges against their client.
According to documents filed in Fulton County Superior Court on Thursday, Nov. 3, Young Thug’s attorneys accused the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office of abusing its authority “by utilizing a sham Grand Jury Subpoena and issuing same to the Hertz Corporation for rental record information relating to Mr. Jeffery Williams.”
The Steel Law firm claims the “sham” subpoena was “not issued or authorized by any Judge, Clerk of Court or lawfully or properly empaneled Grand Jury.”
“Instead, the District Attorney’s Office affixed their own seal on a document creating the false impression that a properly empaneled Grand Jury issued an official edict compelling the Hertz Corporation to comply with the demand to produce records.”
Steel goes on to allege that the DA’s Office “engaged in egregious misconduct and blatant misrepresentations under the force and power of the Court.”
Judge Ural Glanville twice denied bond for Young Thug who is charged with participation in a criminal street gang and violating the state’s RICO Act in the indictment.
